Was something wrong with TR last night?

I was shocked how little they ran him and how little he was in the game. He was the most talented player on the field but seemed to be used very sparingly. Thanks in advance for any information.

He got his 20 carries.

His agent said don't use him up, he's got mouths to feed.

He's not the only running back we have.
Lacy could handle some carries, so they used him.
They wanted to keep Trent fresh for the end of the game.
Also, in certain situations, we needed to take LSU's focus off of the RB position because they were always going to be so focused on Trent.
Beautiful part of the gameplan, IMO. Very smart to conserve him instead of riding him into the ground early. That probably earned us his TD run.

It looked like the staff realized that yards on the ground were not going to happen in the first half. They saved T.Rich and let Lacy soften up the D. Trent played much more in the second half.

9 guys at the line of scrimmage. The goal is to win the game not get TR touches.

I think Saban and McIlwain purposefully didn't use him like they did in game 1. Ya know, changing something from the first time around, to throw new looks at your opponent. Novel idea, I know.

I was surprised that Lacy played so much

I think that was the best thing LSU did on defense. They were determined to shut down TR and make AJ throw the ball. They were hoping AJ would have another 11/5 game but that didn't happen.

He rotates with Lacy. When it's Eddie's turn, he comes in.

No. LSU has a great defense, and they keyed on him and were geeked up to shut him down.

Definitely. We schemed to take away Richardson, but Bama had a great game plan to go away from perceived tendencies and air out the ball. Pre snap motions to show coverage schemes and passing a lot on first down mixed in with great QB play worked well against a D that was head hunting for Richardson. Great player and glad he's gone after this year

Herbie asked Saban after the game about this and the response by Saban was (paraphrasing)"each player gets a certain # of carries during the game and it doesn't matter to the staff who's in the game at any given time."

Nothing wrong with him. Until that late TD run he was being hammered pretty consistanly. They got out of him what was reasonable, especially considering how well Lacy was running it. A.J. and his receivers were the big improvement from the November game. They did a great job.

This.
Bama was mixing up the offense. A concept apparently lost on LSU.

Part of the game plan. Good call and perfectly executed. I'm glad they decided to use my strategy
