You definitely can't argue State has played better offenses than Michigan.

Sure you can, because your list is not apples to apples, so it's shite.

If we're going to start talking about who Michigan has played with better offenses, then we have to start looking at the defenses those teams played against. Then we have to start creating transitive theories to draw conclusions.

If Mississippi State, or LSU, or any other SEC school played a B10 schedule, their offensive and defensive rankings would look much different. In most cases, they would look much better than they do now.

Will be between State, LSU and Clemson. I am still unsure on Michigan's defense.

In the regular season, yes. If we play Clemson though they'll be better.

More than likely.

The best defense State has faced all year is the refs in the Bama game.

Based on what? Michigan plays in a damn good division, played the 2 best teams from the other division and on top of that they played Notre Dame out of conference. What elite offense outside of Alabama has State played?

State has a really good defense, but just assuming they are better than Clemson and Michigan because of some general "we play SEC" is silly.

How? Michigan has been great on defense the entire time Harbaugh has been there. They have NFL players, an elite coordinator and a track record.

Yes, without a doubt.

But really, I'm getting tired of seeing Bama play Clemson. I would rather see us play Notre Dame and Michigan.

Of course you would. Bama has curb stomped Notre Dame and B1G BCS representative last time you all played them. As a Clemson fan, I’d much rather play ND or Michigan for the same reason.

Unfortunately to be the best, you have to beat the best and brother, ND and Michigan ain’t in that conversation this year.

For the sake of accuracy, it is worth noting that Bama curb stomped Clemson the last time they met in the playoffs too.

State has the best defense in the nation. Almost sad to see it wasted on the year they've had.

Best defense in the country. With a decent ref crew bama would have been called holding at least twice. OL tackling a guy is "letting them play" go a little too far. Prolly would have been 10-7 Mississippi State.

24-6 is a beating but the game was more competitive until late 4th qtr. don’t consider it was not a curb stomping but point taken.

Perhaps OSU or OU since they curb stomped Bama last they played?

Teams yes. Offenses No.

Auburn , LSU, Kentucky, Florida

Are all piss poor on offense

More like 14-0. Don’t forget the early whistle negating the scoop and score on Bama’s second possession. Maybe even 21-0....since I figure given the field position on the first fumble, Joe probably goes flea flicker on the first offensive play.

hard to tell. Bama's third string qb played for how long in the second half? He was 3 for 6 with minus one yard in passing. Saban's game plan changed at that time. Preservation mode so to say.

Agree but Tua has not played as well since the injury. Now LSU and MSST certainly effected his play they are phenomenal defenses but if his knee is not right come playoffs be it mental or physical I think Bama is in trouble.

I'm not saying State's defense is better than those others. I'm saying that it's worthless to compare because it's not the same. You brought up Notre Dame...and they are probably on par with State or Auburn record wise if they were in the SEC, for example.

Exactly what I was going to ask! Clemson and Mich are good teams for sure, but their competition has inflated their defensive dominance.

They'll be tough to beat regardless.

I would certainly put State in the conversation with those teams. I wasn't convinced in the offseason that their D-line was nasty enough against the run or that their back 7 was good enough to be a great defense.

They certainly are. That's a damn good group.

Just let me make sure I understand.

Bama's January 2014 game against Oklahoma (a 14 point loss), which saw Bama with the ball near midfield down 7 with 6:22 left in the game AND Bama's January 2015 game against tOSU (a 7 point loss) that ended with a Blake Sims interception inside tOSU's 30 yard line were beatdowns

BUT

Bama's January 2018 game against Clemson, which saw the fourth quarter start and end with Bama leading 24-6 (and Clemson gain a total of 188 yards offense all game) was "competitive until late 4th qtr?"

I'm sorry. I thought I was talking to an adult.
