for example...if you are going for engineering....why do you care if a bunch of NE liberal universities, that only offer liberal arts degree, are ranked ahead.
in the end once you get into the workforce...you will determine how far you advance.

Agree. You shouldn’t care about rankings outside of your field of interest.
Take Business schools for example. I know that LSU had a top notch internal audit department back in the day that was very influential in getting students jobs at Big 4 Acct. Firms. That type of specific strength is not reflected in overall rankings.
But I do think that this new approach of evaluating salaries and outcomes vs just historical prestige is useful for prospective students.

If they keep score, people want to win & some paid handsomely to earn their degrees.. or in this case some people like to point out Old Marge is a degenerate troll.
Reality is that UT is a top 50-75 research university in the world and A&M is barely top 200. On the other side of that coin is the reality that a lot of what goes on in the elite US university research labs is nothing to be proud of. UT's GNL lab in particular will receive/spend more $ than everything aggy combined, but there is a moral price to pay in my opinion (DoD & CCP).
