The elephant in the room for Tennessee's offseason can now head out the exit door — Hendon Hooker plans to return to the Vols in 2022. The quarterback who was an influential part of Tennessee's turnaround on offense in its first season under head coach Josh Heupel announced via social media on Sunday that he will pass on entering the 2022 NFL Draft to remain at Tennessee to use his extra year of eligibility next season. Hooker's much-anticipated decision was arguably the biggest domino for the program as it looked to turn the page to 2022 after an encouraging start to the Heupel Era.

Great news for the Vols. He could really raise his draft stock with his second year under Heupel.

Gonna be a fun battle between him and KJ Jefferson for second team All-SEC.

He has a helluva arm. If he fixes his overthrows, he will be deadly.

You may be thinking of Milton. We have 2 black QBs. Milton started the first 2 games and throws it to the moon - if he ever learns to fix that he's insanely talented.

Hooker has a great deep ball with touch. He could clean up his intermediate throws and clean up his ball handling (he is good for a fumble every game). Really can't find much to complain about with his game other than he needs to fine tune things.

First time I've been happy to see that a quarterback is returning to UT in what feels like millenia

I was talking about the one that played against UGA. He overthrew a few that game. Had a couple open deep shots he overthrew. And the one pick he threw he overthrew to Kendrick. I thought that was Hooker

Ain’t that the truth. Best QB we’ve had since Clausen.

We’ve had guys with skills (re: Bray, Dobbs, Ainge), but nobody as complete as this guy in a long, long time.

If he improves on some of the little mental things, and rest of team continues to show growth and improvement over offseason, 9-10 wins isn’t out of the question whatsoever.

Huge for Tennessee! SEC is better when both divisions are competitive. They’ll compete.

I'm surprised he was thinking about leaving. Was he projected to go high in the draft?

Everyone else will have to be the same or worst! I remember Pruit had the team in the right direction then boom things went South in a hurry but he did get a blown-out win against Mizzou! Not going to happen! Sorry to burst your bubble!

Good for Tennessee. He's a solid qb and seems like a good dude.

You are correct, Dawgfan. Hooker’s worst game came against Georgia, which seemed to be a pretty common theme for most QBs. He had about three different overthrows on crucial third downs.

To answer someone else’s question, he was projected around the 6th-8th overall QB.
