The Vols are suffering for mostly the same reasons Nebraska is suffering. The lack of great in state recruiting and being surrounded by a bunch of teams with great instate recruiting.
Kansas, Iowa, South Dakota, etc. vs anything Tennessee has to recruit against or comparing Nebraska vs Tennessee in-state recruiting.

Really 1998 was a magical year where they had Alabama and Georgia both down and Florida in a huge rebuilding process
Florida was in the Orange Bowl that year & went 10-2. They didn't start their down slide until Zook in 2002.

Are we just making shite up now? Their only two losses, a combined 14 points, came against the two teams that played for a natty.

Their 10 wins were by an average of 23 points

Hell Georgia won the Peach Bowl that year. Bama sucked as they have in every single season in their entire existence where they weren't cheating their balls off.

No one could have foreseen 14 years, but King knew that it was all over in Knoxville and especially against Alabama.

I remember after the 2007 game, talking to my buddy who is a huge Tennessee fan and him saying " Nick Saban just took the worst Alabama team he'll ever have and beat Tennessee 41-17.... We're fricked.." He knew what was up

But we were cheating our balls off at that time. That was literally right around the time of Albert Means.

They need a down UGA in the worst way

A down UGA would help, but it isn’t necessary. UT recruits at a level where they should be competitive and a top 15 team right now and UGA is as high as they’ve been in a while. The only thing holding them back is coaching.

We are hovering around top 10 krootin wise and have been in each of Pruitts full classes. The fact that they haven’t found a better QB (or even tried to bring in a transfer) is the main issue right now.

Talent wise we are basically equal to Florida, but the coaching disparity is pretty large between the two

I told y'all that was a befuddling mistake in the off-season. Maybe you can get the former UCF QB Milton who led them the peach bowl win vs Auburn, he's not gonna beat out the current guy

1) Tennessee has a good bit of HS talent now. There are nine four stars in the class of 2021. However, only one of those nine is committed to UT. There were twelve four stars in the class of 2020 and thirteen in 2019. Tennessee only signed one of the thirteen in-state four stars in 2019.

UT’s problem is they can’t nail down elite in-state talent. The talent is there though.

2) Nebraska isn’t surrounded by states with fertile recruiting grounds.

VOLS need Bert

Not to turn them around, but because he would look like the Syracuse mascot walking the sidelines

Well, he is undefeated in Neyland

Lol the talent in state is overrated to shite. Rankings are inflated because it sells in state scrips but a 4* in TN is not equal to a 4* in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, or Louisiana.

Bunch of soft private school kids in the Nashville metro and Memphis kids are just too god damned stupid

Aka they were doing as much as Georgia does now

Our 2019 team that got blown out by LSU accomplished more in that disappointing season than the Vols have in 20 years lololol

98 Florida was national championship caliber, definitely not down.

Our D was one of our best D's since I've been alive.

Our offense was just mediocre thanks to erratic Doug Johnson and Jesse Palmer.

UT beat us on a missed chip shot FG in OT and FSU got a couple big breaks that helped them squeak by us.
