He can adapt and build his team and have them play around their strengths as opposed to weaknesses.
In Tennessee's last 11 SEC games, all 8 last year and through 3 this year, they have averaged 23 points per game. They had the 11th ranked scoring offense in SEC games last year and are 11th this year as well. I don't think his offense has adapted to the team's strengths very well, and if he is maximizing his team's strengths on offense, he needs to recruit better players.

He's going to be really good sooner than later. I saw three NFL level passes from him against Florida. If Heard would stop whiffing every play at left tackle, that would help Nico's progression rate. He's very close to putting it together though. It's all timing and mental stuff not physical.

Second of all, I tried to think of other red-shirt freshman QB's who started from day 1 in the SEC. First one I thought of was Aaron Murray for UGA. While he was up and down over the course of the season, he wasn't really that much different at the end than he was at the beginning. His worst game of the year was probably the bowl game against UCF (88.5 passer rating. His next worse was 130 against UF which was also in the second half of the season).
Next I thought of David Greene. He wasn't as highly recruited of course, but did start from day 1 as a RS freshman. He was by far better the first half of 2001 than the second half.
What examples do you have of RS Freshman having a big positive jump in the second half of their first year as QB?
those guys also didn't play in 5 and start 1 game as a true freshman like Nico did last year

But Bama pleas shut this dumbass ALT up?
If his team getting spanked by bottom feeder Arkansas didn't shut him up, nothing will.
If Bama wins, he'll just change his tune about how Heupel can't call a game for shite and how big of a pussy Nico is (just like he did after they lost to Arkansas) until they win another game. Then he'll go back to acting like they're championship contenders. Dude is legit bipolar.

Three. THREE! In an entire game. Wow. That is so-o impressive. Even a lightning’ bug flashes now and then…well, actually more than 3 times in 3 hours.

We play old school smash mouth football and i love it.

this alter completely ignores that the entire premise that Hipel's offense is to spread out the defense from hash marks to the sideline - emptying the box - in order to find gaps to run the ball - that doesn't even address the tempo used to keep substitutions by the defense from occurring -

that is the antithesis of smash mouth football -
Vanderbilt this season is more of a smash mouth football team than Tennessee -

True. They were in the old redshirt rules where you couldn't play at all.

Yes let’s talk about this please.
For some reason… A&M, Ole Miss, and Tennessee think they are going to be the best team of all time every single year & it takes them til September to remember they haven’t accomplished dogshit in around 3 decades (or more).
I’m not gonna knock fans for being hopeful but my god UK and Vandy could probably beat any of you, but they’re over there acting normal because they realize they haven’t won shite yet.
Preseason champs, never fails.

Imagine the only reason you could beat Florida and Sun Belt Billy is because you took out their QB...
In fairness to UT, Mertz took himself out playing hippity-hop at the barbershop after that TD pass.

Alabama may win on Saturday, but we're gonna pound on that puussy Milroe like a red headed step child. He's never faced a front 7 like UT's.
He'll be squealing before it's over.

He'll probably take himself out of the game a la Bo Jackson.

If you can make this statement with confidence you have never seen Milroe play football.

C"mon dude. Your #3 was arguably the dirtiest play in college football so far this year.

another way to phrase this....
Tenner squeaks by conference opponents with True Freshman back-up QBs closing games.
well....except Arkansas.
