I'm sure the ties to Nashville and Vandy are the main reasons.
I think it could be a great fit for them.
Now, he needs to go find an offensive coordinator to help him on that side of the ball.

Hope he leaves for Nashville, like, right now.

Nice! You gave a whopping 2 examples. I would say they are the outlier.

As long as he keeps his chick kicker to get on sportscaster weekly that’s all they care about.

If it really came down to this guy and Leipold as people are saying, wtf was vandy thinking not going with Leipold?

2 examples out of like the last 5 so yeah saying the Vandy job is a career killer is stupid

Have 1 winning season in his first 5 and he can move on to somewhere bigger and better. All it takes

Won't be surprised if Leipold took himself out of the running after the Illinois job became available. Apparently, he's a strong candidate for that job.

Bad timing for Notre Dame as well, going into the ACC CG and then the playoffs.

Interesting.

Don't really get all the negativity.

He's a good young coach and he played there so he understands the culture. Doesn't seem like a bad hire to me.

Not down on him as a coach, but it's strange to me for a guy who is a coordinator for a spotlight program (who does a hell of a job) to take this job. Wait it out and go somewhere you can actually win. Vanderbilt HC is no more a stepping stone than Notre Dame DC.

Lea is a Vanderbilt alum who was born and raised in Nashville. He has a deep personal connection there.

Vandy needs an offense first coach, they can't recruit elite defenders. They need a gimmick offense for people to care.

There are some dumb people running vandys ad.

Dude gets a chance to go to his home town as an instant millionaire. Wins and losses probably didn’t figure in to the equation for him. I’m sure he’ll try but it’s not a big deal if it doesn’t work out.

I would understand that mindset more if he were a 55-year-old career assistant. The guy is 38. I have to believe he saw more for his coaching career than amassing a 21-35 record at Vandy.

HS alma mater is Montgomery Bell Academy, so it's some kind of bank on his ties to the Nashville area private school community

So...Vandy already has that, so they're not really gaining anything IMO

Notre Dame is 14th in the nation in total defense, with their weak arse schedule
