Dore fans, what are your feelings about going into this game? I noticed ND struggled with Ball State and y'all have beaten some respectable mid-majors (Vanderbilt - 35 MTSU -7; Vanderbilt - 41 Nevada - 10).

Any strengths or weaknesses? Is the upset possible?

I have money on Vandy ML. I think they match up well, and I just have a feeling that Vandy players will feel comfortable at South Bend.

I don't know how it will end, but I predict Vandy will be in the game in the 4th quarter.

You can get a pair of lower level tickets right now on StubHub for under $140 for the pair. Vandy fans may end up hating themselves for not taking advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Cautiously optimistic but just hoping for a decent showing.

Vandy relative strengths at QB, TE, DL and DB.
Vandy weaknesses at WR and LB.

Cautiously optimistic about our defense. Our first two opponents have scored 61 and 72 points in their other games.

If the offense can sustain some drives, limit turnovers, there's an upset chance.

Optimistic that it will be a game.

The defense is doing what they couldn't do at any point last year, forcing turnovers.

ND's QB had several TOs against Ball State and if Vandy can put on the pressure then they can be in it.

Vandy's DL has run all over the OLs they've faced, but they were both air raid offenses so you knew what they were going to try to do.

ND has the talent advantage and they will try to run so it's a different game.

How will the DL and OL of Vandy hold up? If they put pressure on Wimbush and keep it off Shurmur then they'll be right there.

I'm not telling you Vandy is going to win, but I put my money on them covering.

Having three Vandy fans in the thread is a pleasant surprise. I’d be surprised if the Dores aren’t in it late. This is one of the most interesting matchups of the week.

Touchdown Jesus shines on the Golden Domes of the Dores this weekend as Vandy takes down NBCs favorite son.

Let me tell you what it's like to be a Vandy fan. Every single week, we wonder whether Good Vandy or Bad Vandy will show up. James Franklin or Woody Widenhofer (who should be remembered as a good DC rather than a terrible HC, actually, but it's so much fun saying his name.) The problem is, our success comes in spite of our talent, not because of it, so, unlike major SEC programs, we can't just assume that our talent will show up and at least be able to compete. We have to hope that the players, the coaching, and the scheme are all clicking on a mental level, and that the other team's talent isn't having a really good day. If we're clicking, we upset Big 6 teams and Kansas State and stuff. If the other team's superior talent is clicking, we get an epic Bama beatdown. Regardless of how they're actually playing right now, Notre Dame has more talent in one position group than we do in our entire starting line-up. So my prediction of what will happen will be delayed til around six minutes into the second quarter, after I've had a chance to see how the teams are playing.

Excellent post. Vanderbilt SHOULD be able to keep it a game until late third or early 4th quarter. If that happens, ND will do what ND inevitably always does and lay an egg on National tv. I’m not expecting it to happen but the bottom teams in the SEC are showing some promise again this year. Not even a troll here. Of course you have your Florida’s, South carolina’s, and Arkansas’ but overall I’ve seen the SEC East start to get stronger and Notre Dame just continue to be average but nowhere near where a program like that should be. If Vandy wins, just watch and see all of the Fire Kelly chants to pick up the noise level and ol Urban Meyers to be the new ball coach at ND next year. Bob Stoops to the Buckeyes. And Vandy to give their coach one hell of a raise.

I don't know if Vanderbilt can score but Notre Dame is pretty one dimensional on offense and even that dimension is spotty.

Mason can scheme to keep them in the game. Would be a nice time for Shurmur to have a coming out party against a good team.

Highly recommend seeing your team play in South Bend. One of the coolest experiences imo for a college football fan.

I think Notre Dame was in coast mode against Ball State coming off a great win against Michigan. ND wins by 17 imo.

With that being said, do I want Vandy to win? You bet your mom's prickly white arse I do.

Hope it is a good game, even if we lose. Not sure if ND was coasting last week or if they have some problems. I’m really happy with our team this year and our coaching has been solid. Could be interesting.

Appreciate all the interest from our SEC brothers. Hope we represent the SEC well.

Wow, really going out on a limb there. Of course, neither would I (or most any other Vandy fan), but then neither would I be shocked by any other result except for Vandy blowing them out.

That said, I'm hopeful, but not optimistic. Hoping for a running game, good Shurmur, and an opportunistic D!

Notre Dame - 41

Vandy - 16

It's going to be ugly.

Just because you're a smart school does NOT mean you aren't expected to win your out-of-conference.

Vandy, you got this.
