tbow as a "great QB coach" is another fallacy based on him being in the right place at the right time.

He had little to do with Mayfield. The kid played his way onto the team and into being the starter (he came to OU under Stoops). Murray was the most unique talent most folks had seen since Vick. tbow followed that up by stealing the veteran QB from Alabama - less talented than the two previous, but with a strong will and knowledge of how to win.

2020 and the first half of 2021 saw the kind of QB the "genius" chose when he had to play his own recruit.

He lucked into Williams after having chosen Vandagriff as his first choice and losing him to UGA. Once his worthless defense and lack of anything but Williams was exposed, SC went in the toilet.

The guy FULLY deserves the title of most overrated.

Lane Kiffin after his second season at Ole Miss was the Michael Jordan of overrated coaches. His 2 good seasons saved him (for now) but he mostly just hasn’t done shite as a P5 HC.

I’d still put Lane Kiffin as the most overrated coach. No other coach is as hyped as he is while accomplishing so little, compared to elite coaches.

Excuses at Notre Dame don’t exist at LSU and so far he’s been average.

People's opinion of what average is always amazes me. He has a 20-7 record. That is not average. You can argue it is not great. But it is well above average. Besides, he is entering his third season at LSU. Let's see what he does in season 4 before calling him overrated. He'll have all of his own players, and will have had time to iron out any wrinkles in making the Athletic Department his own.

This feels like a Jimbo level contract failure about to happen.

10/110 M contract
5 M buyout from OU
Mega House

8-5 (5-4) in year 2

Recruiting Rankings
2024 - 18th
2025 - 18th as of today

ESPN FPI projected record: 7.1-5.1

Betting Win Total: 7.5

Yup. If one looks at QBs he recruited and taught its a small list.

He recruited Spencer and Caleb. And Spencer regressed until he went to SC. Caleb was better as freshman than as junior. I’d argue he regressed as teams learned his tendencies and bad habits (leaving clean pockets) were never flushed out of him.

Baker/Kyle/Jalen all transferred in with their talent and LR mostly rode coattails.

Big Game Bob fell on the sword to keep this guy at Oklahoma. He repays OK by leaving anyway.

And when he played against someone outside of that sorry arse conference?

2017: UGA L 54-48(2OT)
2018: Bama L 45-34
2019: LSU L 63-28

Both LSU and Bama scores are closer than the score indicates; he flat out choked away the UGA game though

Nothing was remotely closer than the score in that LSU game.

He got nuked from the jump and spent the rest of the game in desperation trying to find any answer on both sides of the ball.

It was this game when I figured out that Lincoln Riley will never win a national championship, because he doesn't think he needs a national championship level staff, or doesn't know how to build one. They were completely outclassed and didn't belong on the opposite sideline in that game.

Riley is only 40 yrs of age so he can still get a lot better, but he coached OU to three 12-2 seasons and a 9-2 season in 2020. That aside he may be the best qb coach in college football. I'm not sure how many Heisman and NFL qbs he has coached at OU, including when he was OC/QB coach, but it's impressive. He's not a great recruiter, but I think he's a better coach than the credit he gets from some and Finebaum's opinon isn't worth much. His agenda is to get clicks, debate, and attention.

He is 3-7 at USC vs ranked teams.

Sports talk is a hot take factory, anyone who isn't elite is trash.

It's hard to say Riley is overrated when he's not really even considered a top 5 CFB head coach and is like 74-18.

There is a genuine defensive culture problem. I’ve read one theory that his practices are so scripted and in favor of the offense that it almost disincentivizes performance from the defense

I've read similar things, although Riley at least seems to have made an effort to correct those issues.

We will see if it actually is fixed or if he's Les Miles swearing that he's fixed the offense year in and year out.

Brian Kelly is right there with Kiffin. If LSU loses to USC in the opener, then you can put Kelly right on here.

Your obsession with BK is so weird.

LSU and Mizzou have barely ever played each other, BK has never talked shite about Mizzou, and they aren't any type of rivals.

Sorry about that time BK stole some of your coaches.
