The BCS was and is the only recognized title claim since it's creation. They played in the BCSNCG.

Exactly. Who cares what the legit number is? Anyone you slice it, it's more than anyone else. You can dispute our titles, you can't dispute Bama is the GOAT

So Alabama currently has 2.5 times as many NCs as the next closest team, and after this year will have 3 times as many NCs as the next closest team? All this AND Notre Dame is left completely out? I'll allow it.

A) If you let a fan spout off about National Championships and all you do is laugh at them. They've won. They're already in your head.
B) How about we solve it this way. Simply put, Alabama is better than you were yesterday, they're better than you today AND odds are - better than you'll be tomorrow.

I'll just add that NC used to be awarded before games. Also certain schools refused to play in bowl games. So in some years it would have been impossible to have 1 vs 2.

I'm not sure why our 96 title doesn't count. It was won on the field under the Bowl Alliance, the predecessor to the BCS.

What is most significant about 1998 is that all FBS schools agreed and signed on (literally) to the process, whether they like the outcome or not. That's why there should be no complaints about invites (USC 2003, AU 2004, LSU 2011, etc). Like it or not, everyone signed on.
