Per writer, Acey Roberts, here's the story of Ole Miss' alternate blue color, which is preferred to be called, "Confederate Blue"; but, due to political correctness, "Robin Blue", is probably what they go by, now.
Officially, Ole Miss' colors are: Navy Blue & Cardinal Red
*********
Legendary Rebel coach Johnny Vaught ordered helmets for the Rebel’s season (late 50’s) and they arrived in a color best described as a robin’s egg.
As there were games to play and very few options to change them, the Rebels played with the powder blue helmets. And they continued with the powder blue helmets until 1969 and the NCAA centennial design, which was a return to the darker navy helmet.
Billy Brewer, being a Vaught disciple, brought back the powder blue helmets with the familiar script “Ole Miss” on the side from 1983 to 1994. When Tommy Tuberville took over as coach, he ushered in an updated uniform with navy blue helmets while keeping the Ole Miss script.

I'ld love to see how they ordered them & WHAT "color" they chose. Unless that was the helmet company's "blue".

Did the blue prefer it be called that because never in my 37 years of life have I ever heard any person say that.

All you have to do is call Ole Miss' S.I. department @(662) 915-7211, put your inquiry in and perhaps they can supply you with the info you're looking for.
May have to wait until a few graves are dug up, but...oh, well. :)

When I covered college football in the late '60's and '70's, I remember the Ole Miss Media Guides referring to that color as "Confederate Blue". When they started calling it something else, I don't know. But, I do remember the "Confederate" name they attached to it during that time.
Below is the Confederate flag using "Confederate Blue" background.

Confederate blue is a recognized color.
In the WBTS, blue trim meant infantry, yellow was cavalry, red artillery. In the CSA gray uniforms were adopted (gray was color of militia coats pre war while dark blue coats indicated the regulars) and the blue trim on infantry was lighter than a royal blue… almost a steel grayish blue.
Also, the uniforms of both North and South called for light blue trousers… and that color is close to the blue Ole Miss uses. It was, and still is, a nice color. However it never was quite as light as the current Ole Miss uniform color. Google or see link above.

How am I "jelly" over using a different shade than your school's official colors?

Since Ole Miss was traditionally Rebels why did they not use gray?

My favorite Ole Miss uni was the ones they wore when AU visited in 2010:
I just thought the grey jerseys/grey pants/navy helmets was a sharp look.

Why haven't they STUCK with "Rebels"?
As to grey - you ask a good question. The high school of the neighboring county from my childhood home are the Rebels (grey/red/white).
