I am sure there is a African American good ole boy network in Atlanta but the oppurtunity to buy a nod and a wink 'Bama' style ended there two or three decades ago.

Atlanta's population boom transplanted many people not vested in the state or it's university, who simply do not tie their self worth to the sucess or failure of amatuer athletics

Um, they are suspended.

Your examples of Bama transgressions were all worthy of arrests. Kudos for the PD for doing that. I don't believe for a second that all Bama football player issues are dealt with by the police. I believe a certain amount of them are taken care of quietly with a phone call or two.

I also believe that sometimes that happens at all schools. I just happen to believe the sweeping happens at some schools more than others.

FSU has a criminal justice program. If any Gainesville area officers are FSU alums they aren't handling anything with a phone call. They hate us that much. I believe that to be a small part of our issues with the main part being idiots being idiots and getting caught.

So Athens PD just happens to be different from every other PD in the south?

Yes. Have you ever been here or know anyone who goes here? If you did then you would know that the cops DO NOT frick around and they target large males, preferably black.

quote:

Like I said, tell me that our PD caters our team when Calloway got busted with weed(past year), Rashad Johnson(club fight where video evidence later proved him innocent, but was initially charged), and JPW DUI.

Am I supposed to proud of the Tuscaloosa PD for actually arresting for crimes? There's a difference between arresting for a DUI and arresting because a player doesn't give his middle name to an officer.

quote:

Besides, this has nothing to do w/ Athens PD, these guys failed NCAA drug test.

Exactly. It has everything to do with UGA's drug policy where first offense is a suspension. Harshest (or tied with the harshest) in the SEC. If you think NO Alabama players smoke weed, especially in the offseason, then you are just reinforcing what people think of you on this board: that you are a fricking retard.

t just seems like Richt doesn't have respect from all his players. They don't care about disappointing him, or letting down their teammates which is worse.

I'm starting to come to this conclusion... Paraphrasing another long post I saw elsewhere...

quote:

They don't care one shite about him. They have him figured out, and are very comfortable with having to face him. He doesn't scare anybody, frick up and you miss a few games...OK.

Our "family" feeling amongst the players is what will make most of their teammates give these 2 a pat on the back and tell them to "keep their chins up" during their "unfortunate" suspensions...instead of ganging up and beating the ever loving shite out of them and ostracizing them...

We are family. We are building "men."... Right. Men who let down their teammates and don't understand the goal.

quote:

They know our coach "cares about them" and will be there to cuddle them and catch their tears.

Meanwhile, the WINNER across the border with the $45 million contract has his players thinking in a little different way... They KNOW he does not "have their best interests at heart" beyond what the players can do for HIM and THE INSTITUTION...

That coach has HIS OWN legacy at heart. And has his institution's legacy at heart. PERIOD. END OF SENTENCE. EVERYONE THERE KNOWS THE DEAL. Anybody who can fit into that will prosper. Anybody who cant is correctly "irrelevant", and cast aside with the garbage....

Over there, nobody "EVER" wants to face that coach because it means your arse. His goal isn't to be a lovable man. Somehow the players find someway to improve themselves so they aren't tossed out with the garbage. They aren't worried about being loved or cared for. That's what "mama" is for.

quote:

Look at players who wear their Championship rings decades later... Would they trade that ring for a coach that "loved" them more decades earlier, or had their supposed "best interests" at heart? Or are they more proud of being part of something special with their teammates and "WINNING" something nobody else could? The WINNING coaches go for the WIN.

Yes, many times. Never had an issue.

In other words they dont cooperate with the police. You guys try to play off your players traffic offenses as not speeding/not coming to a complete stop. When in reality your players have warrants for failure to appear, and driving with a suspended liscense. The cops dont make your players drive with a suspended liscense. No matter who you are if you fail to show up for court/pay your fine you will have a warrant out for your arrest. None of those things have to do with APD being over aggresive.

So Rambo and Ogletree are suspended 2-4 because of one failed drug test? Correct me if I'm wrong but didnt Ogletree get charged with theft after being on campus just a few months? And hasnt Rambo had prior suspensions? That could have something to do with it.

Do I think CFB players smoke? Oh yea. Do UA football players smoke? I can personally say that they do. What you might not know is drug test arent just popped on players once they enter the locker room. Most programs(including good guy Richt) give players a heads up when it comes to drug test. I dont think it's a stretch by saying some teams have half the team smoking. It comes down to Olgetree and Rambo just not caring enough to keep their piss clean for when they came back from spring break. They probably thought it would be swept under the rug, because they know it's happen to their teammates. That's it.

Rambo's HS claims that Rambo and Tree weren't the only ones to fail a drug test, but that numerous others did, too.

I think there has to be a middle ground there. The players shouldn't fear the coach - unless they frick up. Then they should be very afraid for their future. They should have enough respect for their coach, their teammates, and themselves not to want to disappoint.

Yeah, I'm a chick, so maybe I'm a little soft. But I wouldn't want my kid, if i had one, to play for someone who would just treat them like a number or a replaceable part they can toss at the first opportunity. I want a human element from a coach as well. When Pinkel first came to Missouri, he was walking into a bad situation, and was a major hardass. (He was Saban's friend from college, so I guess it makes sense.) It took a player dying in front of him during a practice to get him to become more "human", and the team has been better for it. Mizzou's team has a family vibe, but they hold each other accountable.

IMO, sounds like Richt may be a little too soft, and Saban too far at the other end of the spectrum.

He wasn't an All-American and second in the country last year in INTs or anything.

Update:
Rambo appealing 4 game suspension. Per LHB, both him and Richt shed tears when punishment came down.

Ogletree 2-4 game suspension was a little overblown. It's his first drug issue. It would be a 1 game suspension.

Branden Smith will get 1 game, but his fighting his arrest and it could be none.

Commings is out for two games, I think that's pretty set in stone.

Best case scenario is that Rambo/Commings get 2, Tree gets 1, and Smith gets 1. Yeah, we'd be missing two starters off the D for Mizzou, but we'd also still return 8 with starting experience.

ETA: Yes, I realize there are 5 others being implemented in this, but I highly doubt (at least from the names I've heard) that any are multiple drug offenders under our policy. Thus, they all receive a game suspension. Buffalo in the upset? Doubt it.

This.

How can anyone begin to make excuses for consistently bad behavior? I'm sick of it. It's ridiculous. It's unacceptable.

Don't be naive man, EVERY program, especially in the SEC, has the same things going on.

ETA: Don't let anybody else on here saying this does not go on inside their program deceive. They're either delusional or have no clue.

TPAWZ,

Honest question: Were your sons starters? Because I've always heard that a teams 2nd-3rd string "good Christian guys" end up getting tested WAY more than the starters.
