Alabama, Auburn, Miss State and Florida were smart enough to see the NCAA was a terrible organization even then.
McWhorter was the commissioner who is a Georgia guy from the word go he hated Florida. Politics from the word go.

Those 6 schools were cowards not to support Florida as the SEC champion.

Now do the rest of the rules broken....

I remember 10 violations being the Gainesville Sun giving the player of the week the picture that ran in the paper on Saturday and the Jax Gator club selling the jerseys that they bought the team for fund raising the week of the FL/GA game.

Most of the violations were petty. They followed Pell down from Clemson where he left them on probation and were determined to get Pell for anything and everything!

Walk ons sleeping on floor in football dorm. Because of no place to stay.

Walks on eating at cook outs for scholarship players because walks have no money and are hungry. So walk ons eating hot dogs broke a rule. Lol

If you are against Florida winning the 1984 SEC title you support walk ons living homeless and going hungry.

Hard to believe anybody would support the NCAA.

And-

From Google AI:

The University of Florida was stripped of its 1984 conference championship due to numerous NCAA violations committed under head coach Charley Pell, including recruiting irregularities, spying on opposing teams, and providing extra benefits to players, which led to the team being placed on probation and ultimately having their title vacated.

Not true, Pell was brazen and stupid. He left Clem in 78 and was busted in 82. So while clemson was actively being investigated for recruiting violations(that occurred under Charley’s watch) Pell was directly paying players out of a slush fund(same shite smu got death penalty for).

Paying players directly out of a slush fund falls in the five percent I guess.

Paying players is not wrong. Who is the NCAA to tell someone how to spend there money.

The NCAA told Florida if they came clean it would be a slap in the wrist. They admitted that a GA watched another teams practice. But still got hammered.

The organization agreed upon during 1984 season to implement and enforce fair practices for members of said organization not to be determined by the morality of a message board fan in 2024.

Son, Georgia and OU took on the NCAA and won back then. That's why you watch every game on TV today.

The Old Ball coach is still paying on that 1966 loss Georgia. He will never get over that one ...
