You have a problem with Georgia expecting an athlete to honor a contract he'd just signed?

the rest of the contract would be money that could’ve been allocated elsewhere at the time.

I honestly had not thought about that part of the ordeal. I don't know what Georgia can or cannot recover, but it will be interesting to watch and see how it turns out long term.

Coming from a fan whose fan base paid for a billboard because a player was going to miss the first half of a football game?

No difficult at all, they have communications and market value metrics galore

After working at advisory/accounting firms for the past 20 years that deals with a ton of litigation and valuations, I can pretty confidently say there is no reliable metric out there that a court will agree on that measures the damages on missing out on a college player. Its about as laughable as bring out the Rivals star rating system in court.

Once again, and 41 years later, UGA, the Bastion of Fairness and truth carries the banner forth for all Universities and Colleges in the fight for integrity. As UGA came to the aid of Oklahoma in it’s challenge to the collusion between the NCAA and the networks in 1984, UGA again demands wisdom and integrity be adjudicated to a course correction for all it’s brothers, and henceforth seeks the unwavering support from its vassels across this land.

Hail UGA the Magnanimous!

Who was Damon’s lawyer when he signed the contract?

I don't really think it's fair to the player, but there has to be some way to protect schools as well.

I'm not just saying that for Georgia.

Curtis signed with Vandy. They've made a pretty significant investment in him. If they suck next year, he can easily portal out somewhere with a better team.

Georgia was counting on Wilson this year. He would have started and played for us from everything I've heard. He transferred out for more money.

Since when can a 18+ year old not enter a legal agreement without a lawyer? I guess tell that to all the students signing Master Promissory Notes

Good. Something it needs to be done to curtail the dangerous combination of unrestricted transfers via the portal and Wild Wild West of NIL.

^this

Right now college football is operating in what amounts to unrestricted free agency and no salary cap. It’s unsustainable and, unless it’s curtailed, will seriously damage the game.

I think the best solution is a structure similar to that in the NFL where teams have a set salary cap and players are signed to a binding contract.

I have a feeling he is just paying back that 30k plus maybe some court fees. Maybe UGA's legal fees if they are lucky.

This.

The courts have done nothing but kiss player's asses the last 5 years. No accountability. If they sued to not have to be enrolled in school to play on the team they'd probably win in our dumbass courts. Would be an "unlawful impediment to their livelihoods" or some BS.

Wait. So UGA is suing this kid for the full ammount, but only paid out $30k. Seriously, what a slime ball thing to do and congratulations on giving every other program in the SEC something to use when they're recruiting against you.

The way to fix this is to scrap NIL and move to a profit sharing model standardized across the NCAA.

Every scholarship player gets a flat check. Preferred walk on get half. Official starters get a starter bonus each game. Award winners get a bonus each award they win to reward elite players. (This includes conference players of the week and position players of the week. Conferences can not create new awards unless all conferences agree)
