I think moving the freshman to the upper deck was a good decision for us. It stops the overcrowding of the lower bowl while pretty much guaranteeing a seat for everyone with a ticket. Unfortunately certain groups like to leave early and leave certain sections close to empty. For the record, I stayed until the end of the last game and I plan on doing that for every game.

How is that going to work with block seating now re-instated? Don't the freshmen pledges normally get there early to hold the seats for the actives?

As an Alabama alumni who proudly sat in the student section for every game, no matter the weather, from kickoff to the final whistle, I can say that Alabama has one of the worst student sections in the entire country.

Oddly enough winning has made it worse.

They are spoiled, entitled, find the games boring, assume it will be a win, only get excited for SEC/BCS title games, etc.

Obviously, it's Miles' fault...

find the games boring,

Have you seen our home schedule the past few years? Most of those games were boring.

Well, when I was in school there were no boring games, every game was a potential win or loss just about, sadly.

And I know games like Georgia State and Chattanooga are BS, but you freaking live on or right near campus and the tickets are just about free. No excuse not to go.

I drive 3.5 hours away and need a hotel for every game.

Alabama students just don't appreciate how good they have it, both in terms of quality of teams and how conveinent the games are.

I hear plenty of complaints from UGA alums about many of the current students' lack of passion for football. Most of UGA's students are from metro Atlanta and many have no roots to the state or the school. As a result, the student body today tends not to be as crazy about southern football as students from years past (when it was considerably easier to get into UGA).

It should also be noted that the UA student body and student section has grown considerably over the last 10 years.

As such, a large number of students in the stands are pretty fairweather.

Winning championships also brings a lot of fairweather fans on board as well.

Staying at the tailgate would have been more fun than going to the CSU game. If I didn't drive 2 hours to get there, I would have left earlier.

If you want the students to show up, quit scheduling games like Georgia State.

But don't you want to get your walk-ons some playing time? Since it's a non-conference home game & they'll all get to dress, the Alabama scout team against the GSU first team would still be a -28 point spread.

I would be so happy if we never had to play a team outside the top 25 again (not counting Tennessee and Auburn).

One of the most fun nights of my life was in the student section for the 94 UGA game.

When I went to UT I watched most of the big games and went to home games from time to time. I still loved football but I was too busy doing other stuff at that age such as socializing, getting drunk, getting laid, etc.

Now that I'm in my 30's I watch every frickin snap.

not getting laid anymore - eh?

sorry to hear that...

I wonder at times if some students get a bit "over saturated" with it all. I was Mississippi State the year we made the Final Four - the campus literally did not sleep that night. If it had been a common situation, I doubt the same would've been true.

You guys tend to overlook the fact that a lot of students at major universities have real majors and real jobs.

Flat out devoting the 8 hours or so necessary to attend a home football game isn't doable. It's not a cost thing it's purely a time issue. Working on your thesis, working on that research project or catching up on your studies is more important than catching a game in person rather than on TV.
