USC and Georgia have opened SEC play against one another since the Gamecocks joined the league in 1992. But expansion is forcing changes to the schedules.
According to a source familiar with Georgia’s tentative 2012 schedule, the Bulldogs will play at Missouri in their SEC opener in the second week of the season. And the annual showdown with the Gamecocks, this season set for Columbia, will be played the first week in October.
The schedules are not yet final nor official as the SEC is still working out the plans to incorporate Missouri and Texas A&M into the schedule

LINK
this is being reported by both Seth Emerson and Mark Weiszer. i kinda like the idea of this game being moved back, especially this year. why decide the east in week 2?

ETA: from WG and DawgVent as a possible 2012 schedule

Not happy at all. It was really fun having that big game early, plus it helped us since UGA historically had more depth. Furthermore, other than Georgia, our schedule was always back loaded. The lack of depth combined with the tough opponents being late in the season accounted for our strong starts and weak finishes. This just makes it worse.

our AD has said that many fans will be disappointed w/ our 2012. in addition to moving the UGA game, there is some speculation that UGA is going to get to complete their series w/ Ole Miss and not start the series w/ Alabama, while we're not going to finish our series w/ MSU, but pick up @LSU instead, giving UGA a much easier road to the SEC Championship game.

as i said over on the DR in the end i think this helps Georgia the most, not that it doesn't help USC, but as you said that tends to be when carolina falters and georgia has shown a propensity under richt to not hit their groove until october and usually starts out a bit shaky in September. now we can get things rolling and have a more consistent team out there that is worthy of battling for an SEC east title

i think slive wants a new team in the BCS

True...But at least Kentucky and Tech are in there to lighten the load

Plus it gives our team time to gel. If we have played SC later in the season i think we would've been much better off.

yea, like i said i really think this helps Georgia out the most. september to get the team ready and in shape, october is hell on earth, then finish up November with some nerd beatings

slive wants another program hoisting the crystal, this year the refs and schedules on our side

Since when did GA become the bell cow for the SEC ego? Never have heard as much crap in regards to "must win" from people that have nothing to do with GA. Yea, we lost to Boise. It's not like we lost to LA-Monroe, UAB, Jax St. I've never witnessed so many egos bruised when we lost that game and it still continues today. And coming from a Miss St. fan, I find this highly amusing.

If we lose to Mehzzouri, why does this affect you? I believe the conference makes it's own statement of dominance by winning the BCSNCC every year as well as keeping schools like MSU perpetually a 2nd or 3rd tier school.

You are correct. UGA begged out of the Bama game. I was looking forward to playing them.

If LSU, Bama, UF, and Auburn are the statement of dominance, what tier does that put UGA in?
