hiring a great oc? ... instilling confidence in the current roster? ... upgrading recruiting (not sure that's really all that necessary)? ... winning the first ballgame? ... ya'll open with unc, which isn't a pushover by any stretch, esp in a transition year ...

Learning how to be a head coach, since he's never been a head coach before.

my bad ... didn't even know he'd hired one ...

but i will say his attributes include the ability to use the run or passing game ... a diverse approach that might translate well into a sabanesque approach ...

this is true, but i'm talking on-the-field stuff ... first time hc is obviously a big deal, but they've got staff out the arse to deal with a bunch of those issues ... and he's learned from the best at est a program/process/etc ...

it will be a bigger surprise to see us outside of the top 5 in recruiting this year, based on who we already have and on our "hit list", esp guys that have us in their top 2 or 3

for me, the biggest thing is seeing that our guys are prepared for every game

based on our talent, there is NO EXCUSE to get blown out by anyone

Recruit well, appear to plant the seeds of a great defense, not screw up Eason and just not frick up TOO bad in general.

Honestly I think his most important task was posted on an article a while back. It isn't necessarily tangible but people need to fear UGA again like they do Bama. Every year for every team, Bama is the game they wait for to prove themselves because you know what you're going to get. They very rarely come out flat and they're going to be the meanest, toughest team you'll face all year. People don't fear UGA right now. Hell Georgia Southern was excited instead of scared to play us. smart has to make this team angry and tough. If he makes us a scary team, even if we lose 3-4, I think it's a successful year.

Getting the entire administration on the same page and pushing in the same direction. The MAIN reason for Bamas success is that everyone is onboard for success. That includes EVERYONE from the prez to the ball boy. UGA has been notoriously cheap over the years (last to get IPF and still doesn't have it's full allotment of QC analysts). The HC at UGA shouldn't have to do backflips in order to get resources. It has been read and react at UGA forever and the red tape has caused our reaction time painfully slow. The problem with UGA football is UGA itself. If they decide to stop being middle of the pack in spending and want to become serious about being a championship program then the sky is the limit.
