Lets look at the Stanford & USC games like you said.
McCaf ran for 243 yards & 4 TDs. Hogan had 8 completions for 3 TDs. Your D lost that one, bud. You got down big and got into a predictable pass only mode.
Now USC... Again the D gave up 40. Its hard to win doing that. The O however was 3/3 in the redzone. All TDs.
Want to try a new narrative?

Did you watch the game? no. Mazzone play calling against a stacked box defense caused lots 3 and outs. Add that to an already depleted defense that was on the field to long. Live in your stat world and you watch Mazzone for 3 years should Sumlin survive this year and we will talk.

You watch an focus on what you think you see. You kept claiming red zone red zone. Stats lie. I went to those games and the data says otherwise.
Edit: Watching UCLA vs USC now

I'll let you know what I see. So far he's running against a 7 man box (not stacked) and just converted a nice 3rd and 7 over the middle. I like it.
Drive 1: Ran & screen plays on early downsvs 7 man box. Past the sticks on 3rd and long. Ran on 3rd and short. OL got blown up, never had a shot.
Drive 2: Pass on 1st down for a 1st down. Run up the gut for a 1st down. Took a shot at the endzone on 1st down. Good coverage so Rosen scrambles for a 8-9 yard game. 2nd and 1, another shot at the endzone on a jump ball. 4th&1. Maz goes for it with a run and it turns in to a TD.
I'll have to watch the rest later. So far, so good.

Imma just be glad to hear at Kyle for a season opener. Been awhile for me.

It'll play out like the last two openers. Much like SC in 2014 and ASU last year. UCLA is overrated, largely due to being in LA with a star QB, and significantly less talented overall. Their offensive line is a mess (like ASU's was when we got 8 sacks) they lost their top three skill position players, have a first time play caller and their defense is very small. I expect a game that gets out of hand late. If you look at their advanced stats from last year, it paints the picture of a .500 team that caught a couple breaks playing injured teams at the right time to get 8 wins. They were 42nd I'm offensive efficiency, 78th in defensive efficiency and horrid on special teams.
Of course we'll fall apart midseason like we always do, but I don't think UCLA can hang. Their style plays right into our hands, a team that leans on a star QB that can't block our DL and undersized defense that can't stop the run which we will try to take advantage of given Knight's superiority as a dual threat as opposed to a pocket passer.

UCLA practices 60 miles east for fall camp where the temps were 103 to 107 so they are acclimated to the heat. No indoor temp controlled practice facilities.

TAMU by 3 scores, baw.

Ucla is stacked with the better QB
UCLA's offensive line has been so bad in camp that they have essentially been running 7 on 7 regularly to allow the passing game to function in practice. We have a top 5 DL in America with two high round picks at DE.
I expect Rosen to get knocked around a lot.

Heard they were really struggling just to get the calls in earlier this Spring and they had a bunch of delay penalties. The terminology for the offense must be difficult for the QBs.

Texas A&M is going to lose every game because they don't belong in the SEC, they aren't Southeastern, there is nothing but sage and sand in Texas, and they are all gay. Did I tell you that they don't belong in the SEC?
UCLA - A LOT, TAMU - not a lot.

UCLA really belongs in the Pac12 and A&M really realy belongs in the SEC.
I think UCLA is a better team than A&M faced last year in ASU, and A&M may have some growing pains with their O-line.
Barn burner of a game though.

The only reason TexAgs are favored is the fact they are in the SEC. UCLA is better in every other way.

It remains to be seen, but the fact is ASU was better in 2014 by nearly every metric than UCLA in 2015. ASU also returned more starters in 2015 than UCLA does in 2016. Bercovici played GREAT in his time in 2014, better than Rosen in 2015.
Based on the prior year and returning production, projecting 2015 ASU to be very good was much more reasonable than projecting the same of 2016 UCLA. This was an 8-5 team that got thumped by Stanford and USC, beaten by TWO sub-.500 teams and almost became 4-9 Colorado's fourth conference win the last five years. They caught Utah with lots of injuries and barely won a dogfight with a BYU team playing its 9th string QB.

Sumlin has an incredible record in openers and in bowl games. If memory serves he is 9-1 in those two in the last five years including a win over UCLA. When he has extra time to prepare a team - watch out.
He's 6-2 which is still good. But he's 3-0 against a 6-7 Arizona State team, a 7-6 USCe team and Rice. Also was down by 21 to Duke in the bowl game before JFF won it. So yeah, watch out,
