Signaling that the leftovers of the Big12 are sticking together to collect the full buyout amounts. If the play was to stabilize the league to keep the buyouts in effect, and to have a decent conference after cow and cart leave then they look to be doing ok.

If they are no willing to pay $80M+ all OU can do is keep owning the conference, that will not be a good look for the B12 and really is not in their best interest.

Sure it is. Never underestimate the power of spite.

I still think if the Big 10 wants to expand then kansas is the obvious choice, but maybe they don’t want to expand at all.

Bias since my mom and aunt are UH alumni. But I think the University of Houston is really underrated.

It’s a Tier 1 Carnegie research school, probably on the cusp of being an AAU school. Give it like 10-20 years.

One knock is that there is not much of a brand in a city with three Professional Teams: Texans, Rockets, Astros.

The other knock on it is that it is a commuter school in the ghetto. But I know for a fact people are trying to snatch up land and flip homes in that area. Aka some gentrification going on.

But I think finally for them to move to a P5 conference will reap some huge benefits. Houston and it’s surrounding suburbs like Katy, The Woodlands etc are recruiting hot beds, and more hometown kids might stay home now.

There was a reason they were left out of the B12 originally. Texas was scared lol I think they could easily become the third best football program in the state now.

What? We’re in the SEC and you’re in a slightly improved AAC. We are laughing our way to the bank at you.

So they replace OU and Texas with UCF and Cincy and add filler in a conference that was already 4th best? Hmm

Why? They suck at everything except basketball.

That's not a terrible conference but the problem is the L8 schools payouts are going to be much less. The other big problem with that lineup is travel issues. You're going to have UCF and WV going to Utah?

It's basically the P4 expansion waiting room conference.

I think it’s just as good as the PAC 12. Big names out west, but they don’t live up to their names.

Thats really not a terrible football conference.

That's actually not bad. Better than the other G5's, I think it could stay P5 and challenge the PAC 12 for weakest. Okie Lite, ISU, TCU, Cincy, BYU, and UCF could all hang out in the 10-25 ranking, every now and again break into the top ten.

And a quote from the article: "With the additions, the Big 12 will retain its status as an Autonomy 5 league, college football leaders believe. The NCAA granted autonomy powers in legislative matters to the Big Ten, SEC, Pac-12, ACC and Big 12, but the most important piece relates to the College Football Playoff. The Power 5 conferences hold lucrative bowl tie-ins as part of the CFP contract, which does not expire until after the 2025 season."

Then why not stay and make it even stronger?

The 12 team playoff looked like a sure thing until the SEC expanded with OU and Texas. The alliance was formed to control the votes on all matters despite the fact there isn't an official bloc. They will vote for a 12 team playoff if it is in their best interest. They will try and craft a bylaw that limits how many teams from one conference can be in the playoffs.
