I don’t think the other conferences want to expand. And I think big 12 expanding Bc no other conference wanted any team from the big 12

Absolutely. At least for now. We’ll see how much it changes over the next few years.

That's got nothing to do with what ESPN and SEC wants. This is just Bowlsby trying to keep the conference viable longer because it's literally his job that's going away.

But if ESPN succeeds in leveraging them to release OU and Texas the other conferences have to expand to keep up, even though they dont want to.

This is chess. The Big12 teams not joining another conference is just the other three conferences counter move to stop the expansions.

The question is how do the other conferences stop the big12 from accepting the only media deal they're going to get from ESPN? If they dont accept the terms then ESPN doesnt give them air time until they do and there's no money.

It's ugly business, but it's just business.

UCF is a shitty school. So is Memphis. They need to avoid both.

Something tells me this is when Patterson finally goes for retirement away from TCU. Someone will snag him.

Ok here's how it was explained to me by a friend who is still on a board at OU.

The new big12 will need a media contract obviously and they will get one from ESPN. ESPN's first demand to play ball is that they release OU and Texas.

So this expansion by the big12 is less about screwing OU and Texas as it is about the big12 and ESPN leveraging each other.

TLDR: If they expand before next season expect OU and Texas in the SEC next season.

Heard ESPN and the Big 12 are working on a slight bump in revenue to the incoming teams than they are making now in exchange for the Big 12 dropping their potential lawsuit against ESPN. No mention of ESPN requiring Big 12 to release OU and Texas from their contract.

I think BYU is the big winner here. If they are at 12 teams they are most likely locked into a 8 game conference schedule. BYU also plays Utah USU and since 2012 Boise every year. Add one more body bag or random team and they probably have their best schedule in a long time.

There won’t be anyone left in the B12 that would be considered head and shoulders of BYU. And they have been doing it without the current payout the B12 schools are used to. What is going to happen to say OSU or TCU when they see a 10M haircut off their operationing budget?

Damn Gus just went from Auburn to a school that could actually win their conference and make a playoff soon.

They can’t replace OU or Texass but I think that’s about the best they can do right now. The remaining 8 teams or as I like to call them the Irate 8 all have their legs spread wide open waiting for the call. I think this move ensures OU and Texass will for sure be competing in the SEC in 2022.

Only if willing to pay 80M - you thought you were getting out for free but that isn't going to happen.

Texas and OU aren't paying $80 million. Probably more like $50 million, and we will see you in 2022

Bowlsby working hard to keep those buyouts from tu and OU intact. The idea is that they’d rather pay that over staying for 4 more years….
