They use to be a satellite school of The University
The bolded word is important here. Used to be a satellite school. UAB isn't one anymore.
quote:
they now want complete control.
No, we only want to be treated equally by the UA BoT.
quote:
They also were jealous of Bama football and moved from a small 2A school to a 1A to compete against Bama.
bullshite. UA wouldn't allow us to have a football team until the early 90's. That's reason 1 why we suck. We're a very young program. UAB never wanted to compete against Alabama. They're not the same caliber team. We only want to be able to compete in our own conference.
quote:
They want to be the numero uno school in the state, and no matter how huge they get, they will never replace The University of Alabama.
Wrong again. We don't want to replace UA. We only want to be treated fairly. UAB is the largest employer in the state. It makes sense to treat us the way you treat UA. Instead, the BoT shits all over UAB and UAH.
quote:
The University of Alabama is UAB's daddy
No. UA is the older sibling of UAB and UAH that treats them like dogshit and won't play fairly.

Yeah, still gotta catch me first.

The corrupt Alabama politicians moved these to Birmingham where they were suppose to stay a part of the University of Alabama.

Actually, it originally started in Mobile in 1859 and was moved to Tuscaloosa in the early 1900's. The medical school was moved to Birmingham in 1945.
If I had to guess as to why it was moved, I'd say it's bc it was easier to access Birmingham at that time than Tuscaloosa. Same reason y'all played games at Legion Field.

Most UAB grads that I know are Bama fans. Doesn't make any sense at all. It's a touchy subject too that usually leads to a conversation about how both universities are in the same system so it's OK to be a fan of the other, etc, etc, etc....
Not all, the faculty as well as many alumn are not happy that Tusc gets whatever it wants and UAB gets screwed heavily.

UAB should have stayed in a lower classification and developed rivalries with Samford and like schools. It's a commute school and will never have the campus feel or the type of support a major University like Bama or Au will have. A 30K stadium and smaller classification would have done wonders for UAB and probably would have succeeded a great deal more than they have.

He didnt say all. Most. And that's correct. I went to UAB, but care nothing abour their athletics.

No they shouldn't have, the reason they moved up for football was to keep basketball competitive which it has. Plus they're building more dorms every year.

Yeah. That's really helped basketball out.
It's downtown. It is a commute school for the most part and their is no campus feel to it at all. It was assinine to think they could develop a following at the Div I level. They would have done fine at a lower level. They will NEVER be anything at the Div I level. They'll never have the facilities, or the coaching, or the players, and most importantly a big enough fanbase.

If this doesn't evolve into a full scale meltdown, I'm gonna be disappointed......

Remains to be seen, I think McGee is a really good coach. they had 28k people there for a troy game that's good enough.

I disagree with this. I go to a decent amount of UAB basketball games since it's a lot more convinent than going to auburn and the team is usually better.

It could. There seem to be a bunch of idiots in here who know nothing of UAB but feel very strongly about it one way or another.
I'd be willing to bet that no more than three or four of the people posting in this thread have any affiliation with UAB at all.

No it hasn't. UAB BB has gotten exponentially worse since Bartow and is a shadow of itself. FB has done nothing to help it. If anything, it may have hurt.

I think he is too. UAB will be a stepping stone program. And that's one game. I'd wager at least half were Troy fans, not UAB fans. When UAB doesn't have promotions giving you things to take tickets, then get back to me.

UAB basketball games
I was talking of FB and being in Div I, not BB. BB thrived for a time and could again. That's where UAB should have continued their focus and development of a program.

Uab is an awesome med school. I considered going there but living in Alabama would be too miserable. I came to Houston instead.

If it wasn't for football we would be Samford basketball. UAB has been the best team in the state more times than not since Anderson was here.

You would lose

The UA board is obviously doing this to compete with AU's planned new witch doctor school.

My favorite thing is all of the UAB grads which think they went to a highly rated school. UAB outside of the Med school is a third-tier university.
