And here's the real question. Even if they were to get a new stadium, where are they going to get their fans from? Do you think people who have been Bama or Auburn fans are going to suddenly become UAB fans because they have a new stadium? Sorry, in this time of both teams being powerhouses, nobody's switching. UAB is always going to be UAB and nobody but is going to care.

Yep - the idea that "local fans" will chose to go to UAB games instead of sitting at home and watching SEC games is laughable. SEC schools are even having issues getting people to games, but UAB is going to be able to get them to come to UAB instead of watching SEC games?

Georgia State made the exact same pitch. They were going to be the "local alternative" to going to Athens or Clemson or Auburn. Nobody wanted anything to do with it. Kennesaw is trying to make a similar pitch, albeit on a much, much smaller level (smartly). It doesn't work. People would rather watch games all day on their TV than miss those games and go to a low level FBS or FCS game.

I don't know. You're the one making accusations. Now prove that whatever plan you are talking about was feasible but they chose not to do so because of some evil conspiracy to keep UAB down.

Again, all athletics departments deny bids and cut costs all the time. We do it in Tuscaloosa too. So just saying that they didn't approve something, doesn't mean a damn thing.

KENTUCKY and OLE MISS FANS- what was your opinion of Legion Field when you played in the Bowl Game ?

Would you attend a night game there ?

The Bammers think the rest of the World is blind to their tactics. Again, those UAB Med School Grads would shift their donations to the Mothership, if the program showed any success. UA BOT knows that and fears it.

If UAB athletics have all these big money donors (they don't) then this foundation should be a huge success. We should see cranes rising over Bham in short order.

We both know better, obviously. Handouts from the System are the only thing keeping UAB football from going tits up.

This is ITAT/ATPB level idiocy
TigerinMiami has a vested interest in UAB for some reason. Every time shite like this comes up about UABOT and UAB he is quick to throw out these old relics for us all to see. He is an Auburn fan living in Miami and has an odd interest in UAB??? WTF?

$30M - "paid for by gifts, loans and money from the Atheltic Department funds, not UA funds"

Also known as the UA Athletic Foundation, not the UA BOT being on the hook for the debt.

UA Approves $30M Baseball Stadium

Had to see what could possibly make this thread go 12 pages. I had no clue Auburn fans were all UAB grads/fans too.

Around 30 mil. Or one years profit from UA's football program. You see the difference, of course. One AD is flush with cash, the other is not.

And UAB wants the same opportunity. UA BOT will not approve of them using University funds and donations. That is there beef. They have the money.

I don't know, I hope they approved at least equal funding to the UA Softball Stadium 'cause it's a damn nice facility.

While we're on the subject -- It's about damn time the AU BOT throw some money at the AUM Baseball Stadium and it's program, it's looking shabby and needs an overhaul.

At least UAB has a team.
Unlike how Auburn restricts AUM from even fielding a team.

UAT's BOT has purposefully and intentionally harmed UAB football and athletics OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

To claim any differently just shows an utter contempt for integrity in discussing the topic.

asking the UA System to take on a $60 million debt to build a stadium for a program no one supports is intentionally harming UAB and the UA system. Ask the UAB president

AU knows that if they fund and make an effort to establish an AUM program, and then subsidize it, the leeches and conspiracy theorists will bitch about not getting more.

So, smart on their part I guess.

Look there's Elvis. I do not think AU is worried about AUM fielding a team.
