Two national blue blood brands. Auburn is a nobody.
The actual facts say otherwise.
2013-2025 Regular Season TV Viewership:
*Auburn has had 28 games hit 5 Million+ in total viewers compared to Oklahoma’s 20
*Auburn has hit this number of viewers against 11 different unique opponents. Oklahoma hit that number against 10 unique opponents, and had the advantage of changing conferences to increase the number of unique opponents played.
In terms of total Regular Season TV viewers 2013-2025, Auburn is at 379,423,000 compared to Oklahoma’s 345,402,000.
As far as National Title Games go, here are the top rated National Title Games in terms of total viewers, 1998-2024 involving either Auburn or Oklahoma:
27,316,000- Auburn vs Oregon 2010 (ESPN)
27,200,000- Oklahoma vs Florida St 2000 (ABC)
26,767,000- Florida vs Oklahoma 2008 (FOX)
26,060,000- Florida St vs Auburn 2013 (ESPN)
23,937,000- LSU vs Oklahoma 2003 (ABC)
21,419,000- USC vs Oklahoma 2004 (ABC)
National Title Games involving Auburn have averaged 26.7 million viewers despite all the games being played on cable.
National Title Games involving Oklahoma have averaged just 24.8 million viewers despite all of them being on a major network.
Sorry bud but despite your hype, Auburn’s brand just attracts for eyeballs.

Also, the Texas fanbase had a hard time getting pumped about playing schools like Baylor or traveling to Iowa, Kansas etc... and I don't blame them. As a Texas fan... going to the SEC was a huge upgrade in terms of interest.

Nah. The schools in this conference pull their own weight. They have huge stadiums and sell them out. Massive interest in football. Lots of money makers and eyeballs. Far, far cry from Texas and OU having to do all the heavy lifting in the Big XII while splitting money evenly with schools that don’t make any.

lol you know that game in Jordan-Hare next year going to be insane. And they probably have that Oklahoma game circled next to Bama.

Let it go, we have all been screwed by refs, ask UF about the Dallas Baker slap. UTx and OU are outsiders we know, but you fan base continuing to bitch and moan is getting old.

Not really. If Texas weren’t in the SEC, that game wouldn’t have gotten so high of a number.
For the 11 seasons spanning 2013-2023, these were Texas’ largest regular season TV audiences:
10,945,000- Notre Dame (2016)
10,600,000- Alabama (2022)
8,760,000- Alabama (2023)
8,630,000- LSU (2019)
Texas never came close to the type of number they drew against OSU until they drew in more SEC viewers by being part of the league. Also fitting that 3 of Texas’ 4biggest tv draws prior to joining the SEC were against SEC opponents.

Gee... I have a sneaking suspicion that all that data you provided is actually the reason why Texas and OU joined the SEC.

All those playoff games drew record numbers. It was the novelty of the new "playoff" format that brought the interest.
But thank you SEC for creating the Texas brand.
Geez.

is widely understood that the SEC through Texas a lifeline.
quote:They were doing just fine generating more revenue than any other school in the country. This just further increases it
Staying in the B12 was not helping the brand which they value highly.
A lifeline indicates they were drowning. Not sure I understand the logic there…
quote:If you honestly think that the sec will not benefit from adding Texas and Oklahoma, and believe they would’ve been better off going to the B1G instead, I don’t know what to tell you lol
Definitely on point from a brand perspective. Joining SEC has helped Texas more than the SEC.

I have no idea what you are talking about. All my viewership stats I posted regarding Texas was for regular season games.

Fine, I'll concede after looking at how the SEC Aggies even drew more viewers.
That's frightening how the southeast is so chock full of sedentary overweight TV watchers.

As I said in the OP, both the original SEC and the 2 newest members have benefited monetarily from the latest round of expansion.
However, TX and OU have gained way more than the rest of the SEC has from expansion.
Texas and OU were over there playing Kansas on FS1 while the big SEC schools were routinely playing each other in front of massive audiences. The data shows Texas and Oklahoma were only capable of producing big audiences by playing OOC games against SEC teams or OSU, ND, MI, etc.
I mean even the Texas vs Oklahoma rivalry game doesn’t draw as big of an audience as most SEC rivalries:
Biggest Rivalry Games by Avg TV audience 2013-2025:
*regular season
*min 9 games played on a metered network
13.266- Ohio St vs Michigan
9.885- Auburn vs Alabama
9.240- Alabama vs LSU
7.591- Ohio State vs Penn St
7.112- Army vs Navy
6.910- Alabama vs Texas A&M
6.000- Alabama vs Tennessee
5.935- Georgia vs Tennessee
5.673- Ohio St. vs Michigan St.
5.651- Georgia vs Florida
5.435- Michigan vs Penn St
5.403- Alabama vs Ole Miss
5.234- Texas vs Oklahoma
5.119- Michigan vs Michigan St
5.034- Auburn vs Georgia
4.789- Florida vs LSU
Alabama vs Ole Miss has been a bigger national draw the last decade than the Red River Rivaly.
This is what I’m talking about.

When Aggie and Missouri (two doormat Big 12 teams) joined the SEC, they thought they had won the lottery.
Little did they know that the clock was simply ticking before OU and Texas joined the SEC. There is no way that the SEC was going to just settle for third rate programs and let the big boys go to the Big 10.
