It’s an honest answer from Kelly.

We aren’t Georgia currently. Do we have athletes to compete with them possibly? Yes.

But Georgia is the top dog in the sport as of today.

Texas A&M's Jimbo Fisher wouldn't answer if OC Bobby Petrino will call plays: "I'm not going to get into that. Bobby was hired for a reason. Tremendous guy. Tremendous football mind. Hopefully he'll call the game & have suggestions."

Close but no cigar. Kirby said the same type of stuff shortly after he was hired. It tells recruits that he needs them. He needs them now. If they come to LSU, they will start over the players he has now. It is a recruiting pitch. And a darned good one. It is how you stack talent with a new program.

No doubt.

We have the players to hang with Georgia, but beating them would be really tough.

Georgia is the top of the mountain.

I think Kelly is trying to temper expectations.

see where you're coming from, but we did mop the floor with them in the SECCG. I mean we hang 35 on them in the first half. So, I think we flexed the talent muscle in that game. They were already reeling from the Aggie beatdown and I think some of these posters are right in saying the lack of depth was starting to catch up with them.

And it was expected.

If we make it to the SECCG game again against Georgia I think it would be a better game but Georgia probably wins.

You gotta like where we are heading tho for sure.

Georgia is just incredible currently.

By game 3 or 4 this will change 100%.

The Kelly quote makes sense to me. He's saying maybe, but they aren't on the schedule so we'll see if we can make it through our season. Most coaches don't like questions about other teams. "How do you stack up against Alabama?" kind of questions. I think Kelly gave a fair answer.

Yeah, it's coach speak.

Kelly has already said this team is a year away. I think that the offense at least is certainly good enough now, but he's the man who would know.

I think that 2022 win over Alabama is going to go down like Les Miles’ wins over Saban’s Alabama. Great wins but aberrations that were more about what Alabama wasn’t doing than what LSU was doing. Alabama lost that game due to fundamental play-calling deficiencies on defense. LSU did nothing special in that game.

If there was simply a play calling deficiency and LSU wasn't doing anything special, then Alabama still should've won due to the talent advantage.

Consistently in bad personnel groupings and bad blitz packages. Doesn’t really matter if you have more talent when you’re asking a 240lb LB to take on a 300lb guard in the run game consistently.

Maybe true, but "most" HC's will stand up for their OC and give them some shine when asked a direct question instead of deflecting for no apparent reason. It's lame to think someone who is 100% used to getting grilled by the media has an aversion to answering the same type of questions.

Heard a little on Fienbaum yesterday and it did not necessarily sound like a happy marriage just yet...hard to tell with the way Dumbo speaks but if I was pressed I would have to say he is not ready to turn the reigns over completely. Whats the o/u on a fist fight breaking out on the sidelines during a game between them and who would prevail??? Could be very amusing for all but the aggies...

Trolls be damned the only person he has to appease is Petrino...and there is a difference between the play caller and whose calling the plays, especially when something goes wrong, which it will, and Dumbos instincts kick in during the heat of the moment...

and we aslo played UGA, as you're well aware of, and we were outmanned, outmatched, out depth'd all across the board. we beat bama at home in a wild game. we got blown out by UGA. i think the gap he mentions is closing SOME, but its still evident.

and as someone else pointed out, we overachieved last year AND are still filling in major roster spots from the portal...lots of 1 and dones there. until he gets his high school recruits in, developed, depth built etc, i see his point. we can win all of our games because of our experienced QB, or we could lose 3-4 again because of DL and DB deptch\experience...as well as injuries etc.

Two quotes I just saw from media days that have me scratching my head a little.....
quote:
U's Brian Kelly: "Is the gap closing (w/Georgia)? We'll only have that opportunity if we get into the championship game vs. Georgia. I know based on how we've recruited we'll have a football roster that will be able to compete against Georgia. Is that right now? No it's not."

There certainly isn't a gap between Georgia and Alabama and Kelly just beat Alabama with a less talented roster than you have this year.

I’m not sure what you’re even trying to say.

He said he doesn't have a roster than can compete with UGA right now. That's what he said. I'm not reading between the lines.

Alabama certainly has a similar roster as Georgia. He beat (competed with) Alabama last year. It ain't hard, baw.

Korean, methinks Kelly was just trying to be diplomatic and cautious. I think he knows he has a talented roster.
But we won't know if it's on Georgia's level til later in the year in all probability.
I know one thing - LSU took the lead in the 2022 SECCG. If our ST coach doesn't screw up on the missed FG return, and Georgia doesn't get a MIRACULOUS int off of a HELMET, that game is MUCH closer. UGA still would have won, but it would not have been a runaway...
