Southern Miss vs Ole Miss in the late game should be a good one.

I never look forward to playing them midweek. They always play us tough as hell in these. At least we get them in Oxford instead of neutral field.

They do, but so what, good for them. When the smaller schools get a chance to knock off the bigger schools it is a big deal to them. We have already lost to South Florida and Jax, and I am sure it means a lot to their players. You never like losing, but these mid week games give a good chance to get the freshmen some playing time to get them ready for the future.

People say the mid week games don't matter. Why is that? They count in the W/L record the same don't they?

It's not that they don't matter, its that weekends matter more. The weekend shows a fuller picture by growing the sample size from 27 outs to 81. You pitch your best 3 starters and empty your bullpen in a weekend.

Okay, this makes sense. A series is more important than a one off.

They do, but the games are not considered by the people who make the polls, nor the people who select the teams for post season and the seeding. And when I say not considered, they may make up 1% of the decision making if 2 teams are determined otherwise equal. The reason is teams never use their starting pitching for the mid week games, and many coaches also try and get non-starting position players some time in the field and at bats.

Because the committee knows how they’re used for the better programs. If you lose a lot of them it matters but losing a few doesn’t matter.

We tried to schedule Grand Canyon but they told us they just want to schedule teams on their level.
