quote:Auburn has run through 3 maybe 4 NIL Collectives in the last 10 months. Their head of Compliance gave specific instructions that NIL could not be discussed or even mentioned in recruiting by the coaching staff and no one involved in NIL funding (boosters) were to have direct communication with prospects or their agents, etc.
NIL money could be withheld until he’s gone.
That head of Compliance is now the interim Atheletic Director, Rich McGlynn. Auburn's most recent NIL Collective "On to Victory" was launched last month. IF anyone was has hampered or acted to undermine recruiting as it relates to NIL at Auburn, it came down directly from McGlynn's directives.

Do the PTB at Auburn have influence over the major NIL endorsements?
Plausible theory, at least in terms of magnitude of support.
ETA: Sorry, didn't see RT1941's post above.

dont even understand how the guy managed to get hired. He was fighting a losing battle from the beginning. Do yall not have a twitter lynch mob to cancel these hires and fire the AD when these kind of things happen?
Yeah like the Vowels who cancelled Greg Schiano and kept hired some other idiot who isn’t there any more lol. Bang up job, boys

I assume that they do.

I just can't believe a coach at an SEC program would be that flippant about such an obviously major component

It's really not though. A big time job in the SEC is a terrible fit for a laid back PNW guy.

Just seems like Coach Harsin deserves a fair shot to demonstrate what he can do. Seems like a no-nonsense, old-school type coach. CFB is a funny business ... you never know what can happen.

I actually agree. The thing is, we all know Harsin is a quality coach. Fans are just mad that progress isn't faster.

I actually think that's sort of where we are right now in terms of figuring this out.
It's probably a given that the PTB are interfering in such a way that it has essentially placed him behind the eight ball.
The question is, I guess, are they doing this because he's not a quality coach, or is he a quality coach that they just don't want for whatever reason, and thus he's being sabotaged?
I'm just curious as to their motivation.

Is this really a Harsin thing, or is there something behind the scenes that's affecting his ability to recruit?
In all honesty, do you have to ask this question?

I realize it's a totally different animal, but how well did he do it at Boise?
From the looks of everything, he seems to delegate recruitment specifically to the position coaches and coordinators with a certain type of player in mind, i.e., do they have the right temperament, skillset, and work ethic (not that I disagree with this approach). The reality of the situation is that a large segment of the fanbase just wants to "buy" their players over "developing" them, and at the same time, a large segment of the booster class just wants someone that they can control. Personally, I like the guy (you don't obtain his overall record pre-Auburn by sucking at the job), so in my opinion, the boosters and fans that are against him can sod off. Given that we're surrounded by the Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Florida, and Florida States of the world (with the bulk of them dominating the current recruitment and national championship picture), this is the right approach.
P.S. There's also the issue of transitioning into the position during COVID as well as Governor Meemaw keeping the state under lockdown, too.

He’s just trying to deflect attention in the state from his insider trading scandal that’s coming to light: Tommy Tuberville’s well-timed stock trades raise questions, face legislative threat

Meh, Auburn will finish in the top 20 in recruiting just like it does every year.
Posted on 9/23/22 at 1:08 pm to RT1941
Harsin needs at least ten years.

Tuberville is absolutely right

Maybe, but there is certainly a trend here.
2023: 55 (current)
2022: 21
2021: 19
2020: 7

Why? He isn’t from the South, he doesn’t blend well with the culture of the South, and he fired all the assistants that WERE from the South and knew all the right high school coaches and knew how to schmooze parents. Harsin has an expression on his face all the time that just looks like he smelled a really bad fart. You think that expression and attitude goes over well when you’re trying to win over mama and daddy?

Why?
I'm speaking more of his lack of willingness to recruit — I honestly can't tell if he's actually proficient at it or not, or if something else is going on.

It will be interesting if Harsin last long enough to actually get and develop a QB. I don't think he's a horrible coach, he's just not elite.
