Sounds like Alabama has a coach that understands risk/reward and can weigh both very well, huh?

Fortunes favor the bold. Bringing Tua in did 2 things (pardon the pun). First, it gave us a spark on both sides of the ball like Saban and everyone else has said by giving us a passing game. The second is it changed UGA by putting their mental state on defense. Notice they got conservative and have been heavily criticized for it. I bet they were second guessing themselves the entire 2nd half. Instead of pressing their advantages they were scared shitless wondering how to protect their lead.

From years of coaching and studying QBs I have never seen this done in a game

lol, thought this was a real post until I saw this part. You manage to miss Kiffin putting his hands in the air when the safety would jump the out route bc the play was designed to go down the hash and do exactly what you described?

Well........he's an underclassmen. 8 out of 10 QBs, underclassmen or upperclassmen, who took the monster sack that he took, don't overcome that mistake.
And until that very moment, no one knew if he was capable of overcoming that mistake, because he's a true freshman who had never been in situation where the game was on the line on the collegiate level.

Hence the answer to your question as to why wasn't he the starter all year. He has elite talent, but no one knew how he would respond to that kind of intense pressure in live game. And Bama had the luxury of a starting QB who had proven himself in those situations before (also as a true freshman, BTW).

Now, if Hurts sticks around and remains the starter over Tua, you have a point. But at the time being it's clear that Saban made the right choice last year.

Some of you are totally missing the point of my comments. Sure the OC could have thrown his hands up and call TD when the safety did not move over. That is not what I am talking about. I am focusing on Tua's footwork and his stepping into a throw without even looking at his target.

I have heard some of you say you have seen this plenty. Well let see it then. Find me a college or NFL play where the QB switches his feet, changes his momentum and steps into a throw before turning his head from one side of the field to the other and throwing a dart over 10 yards to someone and hitting them in stride. I dare say you will not find 1 example of exactly what Tua pulled off. Much less 5-10 examples as some of you claim this is not a big deal.

Any person on Earth that plays qb and sees cover 2 knows where they are going with the ball. Now, that being said, that throw was exactly where it needed to be.

You must not watch a lot of good qbs. It’s an expectation of your players if you coach responsible football.

And where would "any person" assume you are going with the ball?

You are looking 20 yards deep down the sideline. Cb’s responsibility is short zone and safeties cut the field in half, no time to get over to the sideline. Now, Georgia actually showed man, but cb gave up inside release because he knew he had safety help. Notice cb throw his hands up looking at safety getting there late in replay. As deep as Tua threw that route, it had to be on the money and notice the wr almost fade a little more to the sideline as he caught it. Tua actually outthrew the open zone of this play a bit, but it worked because he took a second to look off safety just enough for him to hesitate. If safety stays on the right guy, he actually gets to the ball in time. If throw is 10 yards shorter, it’s a catch in between the cb and safety, which is the intent.

I've calmed down now and accepted the Bama dynasty, and just pick my battles these days. No need to deny reality.
Tried to tell you that years ago. Good to see you've come to finally accept the Crimson overlords.

It was a mature, savvy play by a natural QB

Let's don't go overboard, though

Holy shite dude. Get your priorities straight.
The play took all of ten seconds from the snap to the completion. I could watch it five hundred times and still not be into a time investment over an hour and a half.

Guess I must have missed some UGA out there besides the CB who was 2 steps behind and the safety who was about 10 yards away.

Tua is joe montana and tom brady all rolled up into one.

Tua may never win another game for Bama but he did a great Montana/Brady impersonation on the final play of the game.
