True or False: The transfer portal has improved college basketball

I say true. In my perfect world we are back to old school recruiting and developing players 3-4 years before they can go to the NBA, but that isn’t happening. The transfer portal has at least prevented super teams of freshman one and done talent dominating the sport. Your better teams are now heavily comprised of experienced and well coached mid major players who transfer into high major programs where their skillset fits.
Lightly recruited players who bust their arse to get better are rewarded with a junior/senior year at a power school, and the overall game is better come tournament time with grit, experience, and fundamentals starting to beat AAU coached freshman NBA talent. It sucks for the mid major schools and I think that is reflected in their lack of representation in the Sweet 16 this year. But it’s a better game at the high major level.

False so far. Same ol same ol.
NC State is only low seed left. And they aren’t exactly a Cinderella.

It absolutely kills smaller programs more so in basketball than football.

True but only for the big programs. We’re picking apart the mid majors and I think you’re making this post because we have Sears, Nelson, and Estrada all from mid majors.
False because the mid major programs are getting hosed, but the big dogs are benefiting. Maybe that’s why there’s a lack of a true tiny Cinderella this year?
It’s based on your perspective

My perspective is that a mid major with a great player has zero chance at a national title and a tiny chance at a deep tournament run. Id rather that player who has busted his arse get a chance at a title in his last year or two playing major basketball. No doubt the portal screws the smaller programs but that is just life. The NBA screws the big programs when they take a star player early.
If recruiting with NIL is here to stay, I’d rather see that money going to a proven 21 year old mid major transfer than a 17 year old who hasn’t proven shite.

Was watching an interview talking about girls recruitment coming out of high school. Talked about dont let d1 be the end all for your recruitment. Realistically, theres maybe 15 schools that can win a national championship. Whats wrong with going to a lower level school/Division and being a 4 time all-american.
Basketball imo has more greater players spread out across the smaller schools.
I believe grant nelson only has 2 d1 offers coming out of h.s. Last night, he was clearly the best player on the court.

As we found out here a couple weeks ago the transfer portal and NIL have dramatically improved sports and Saban shouldn't whine. Yes, college sports is better. Bama sure as hell benefitted from it last night. Without the portal Bama isn't going for a national title in basketball. What this season will allow Bama to do is go buy even more of the best players for sports such as basketball where we can go get guys that have proven themselves at other schools and come to be difference makers at Bama. Nate went and got the number one rated transfer in America last year. If folks want to play the transfer game well game on.

This. They take a chance on a kid, develop them then a P-5 school with a big NIL pool snatched him up. We have all done it but it doesn’t make it right.
