Had to make a drive from Jacksonville up to Charlotte and made a lunch stop in Columbia. Ate at Cola’s (I highly recommend) and decided to take a tour of the State House. The place is a beautiful piece of architecture and has a lot of history. If you haven’t been I highly suggest a stop next time your team plays there.

I was confused at the tone of the tour though. I was expecting a ra ra ra state pride kind of thing, but it was more...remorseful. It honesty reminded me of the WW2 museum I visited in Tokyo. Lots of history ranging from Confederate era through now, but I’d say the overall message was “we screwed up, let’s not repeat this.” I found it interesting that Sherman’s troops were the ones that burned the city down on their way out.

As a non-southerner Texan, is this normal? Or are other Southern states still proud of their heritage?

It's pre-conceived notions and questions about his observations. What is there to agree with?

The Union troops also broke Washington's cane during their stay.

It's no surprise that Cocks don't criticize a dick like Sherman.

I’ve seen the Houston area described more as “Gulf Coast” than Southern. Either way, most agree that Texas isn’t “The South.”

White guilt makes me want to vomit. Most native South Carolinians recognize the average Confederate soldier was a poor dirt farmer who was as held down by the feudal system of slavery as those in chains. Most native South Carolinians understand that the average Confederate soldier died defending his home and family from an invading army. Unfortunately, this state is being overrun by Yankees, who do nothing but complain about how the South isn't like the places they left up North. They are trying to make us ashamed of our history. Most native South Carolinians abhor this and, at least from my perspective, I wish they'd all get the hell out.

You got all of this from a simple detour off the highway and lunch at Cola's?

Texas is not Southern.

It's not mid-West.

It's not Southwest.

It's not West.

It's Texas.

If it weren't for South Carolina, America probably loses the Revolutionary War.
