It's also just kind of silly for anyone living in Alabama. I'd wager the large majority of the "bandwagon" fans are from outside the state.

Oh, I agree. I work with one Bama fan who is from Ontario. He’s been a Bama fan for probably 3-4 years. A guy I grew up with was a Georgia fan for 20 years and converted to Bama. I realize how much football means to people from Alabama, whether it’s Bama or Auburn.

Yea, living in Atlanta I mostly work with college grads (humble brag or something), so I don't come across a lot of "oh I'm a fan of" folks. But, when I do randomly come across someone who is like "YEA ALABAMA" and it comes to light they've been a fan for like 5 years..............I just pretty much shut down any conversation about it.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but we are not the same Mr. I Jumped On in 2012. I have no desire to discuss them with you. Or, I just start talking about Avery Johnson and the basketball team. Either one works.

I was honestly thinking about posting something similar. I grew up in rural west TN and there was tons of bama "fans" but they had never even been to T-town. They truly were some of the most annoying fans ever. It wasnt till i went to college and was around students/alums/actual fans that i realized they werent nearly as bad

Is this another one of those “I’m a better fan the you” circle jerks? The kind where everyone condescends those “beneath them” and generally acts twice as revoltingly as the group of fans they’re trying to call out? Oh my!! You’re an alumnus? Whoa everybody! We got somebody here who could scrape together tuition!! Stand aside for the king of fans!! I think we should up the ante. Only people who worked 7 years in the science department and poured concrete for at least 3 campus buildings can call himself a fan. This is the douchiest of douchey topics on tRant. It is embarrassing.

No, it's making fun of people who are loud, obnoxious and annoying and/or those who decided to be fans of the team because they were good.

Nobody has any ill-will towards people who are cool and good folks and didn't get a degree from the school they like.

I’ve never cared why someone is a fan of team “A” or team “B”. None of my business. I’ve been a Bills fan my entire life. I was too young to enjoy the early 90’s and they’ve sucked my entire adult life. Point is, not everyone is loyal to their team.

Every kid I went to grade school with is still a fan of the team they were 30 years ago unless they went to a different college. I just do not meet bandwagon fans

I don't know a single A&M sidewalk fan in South Texas. All A&M fans i know are graduates.

Texas t-shirt fans are all over the place.

So Ill ask again. You have 350,000 graduates. How big do you think your fanbase is?

Honestly, I know they exist somewhere in the world, but they almost seem like a white whale. Like you, I can't remember the last time I talked to someone who wasn't a fan of whatever team they grew up liking unless they literally moved to a new place and adopted that team (mostly professional).

I'm guessing maybe it happens more in places where there isn't a strong team to pull for, but even then I feel like most people pick teams as kids and stay with it. I don't know any adults that were just like "ok I like this new team now". I'm pretty sure that doesn't even exist.

I actually feel bad for the Bama fans pre-Saban because the bandwagon ruined the perception of an Alabama fan.

Alabama's fanbase is the same size in state as it was in 2004. LINK

Then there needs to be a definition of the term on here. Every team in the history of ever has loud, obnoxious fans many of whom happen to be alums. And the type who follow teams because they’re good are bandwagon fans. That’s a different category altogether. Every time this topic comes up on here it comes across as elitist bs.

Yeah you have 6 million fans in the state of Texas alone and you have more fans than Texas

LINK

Even if all your fans were only in the State of Texas and all your alums were only in the state of Texas (neither of which is true of course) less than 7% of your fan base attended A&M

I knew quite a few guys from Bama in the military. Mostly really good guys. By comparison one of the biggest dicks I ever met in 8 years in the Army was from the ATM. Just saying...

They already have a name. Bandwagon fans become fans of whomever is the best. It's a self esteem issue with these people.

Most people have no issue with long time fans. Most people don't care for bandwagon jumpers.

I don’t believe you. How can Tua both be simultaneously “over hyped/ Jeremy Johnson 2.0” AND there be Bama fan students who can’t name him?

I tell them, that being born and raised in Louisiana and being a bama fan, is like being Born and raised in the USA and supporting ISIS.

And how many Aggie fans do you think there are, just among the 28.3 million people living in Texas?

Honestly, Texas, OSU, PSU, and Notre Dame have more fans who aren't alums. With most schools, it's solely a function of population. The SEC schools with more non-alum fans than Bama would be TAMU (even though they're the second school in the state), Georgia, Tennessee, and LSU. Those teams don't share a state with another real fan base.
