Nebraska from 93-97 was absolutely sick, going 60-3 and winning three national titles (one shared). The three losses were as follows:

A one-point loss in the 1993 Orange Bowl to national champion FSU; an inexplicable 0-19 early season loss at Ariz. State in 1996 (an Ariz. State team that went unbeaten until that heartbreaking loss in the Rose Bowl to Ohio State that cost them the national title and vaulted the Gators to theirs); and the famous loss to Texas in the inaugural Big 12 title game with the 4th and 1 call by Mackovic.

That was a description of ALL of their losses over a 5 year period.

I did watch their season and ours. That's why I thought we had a chance against them if we would have been in the game. Oh well.

Would very much have liked to see that game. Alas.

They were losing to VT and Stanford in the 4th quarter. They were up 1 on Oregon State going into the 4th quarter. They beat UCLA by 5, and they were 9 yards away from losing to Cal.

This is why I didn't include '04 USC on my list. They were talented and put a lot of people into the NFL, but they still struggled here and there during the regular season. People get caught up on their bowl victory and the players they drafted into the pros. The same thing goes for 2001 Miami. They are definitely one of the greatest teams to play in my lifetime, but people tend to rank them over '95 Nebraska simply because of the amount of talent they put into the NFL and the way they ran all over an unworthy Nebraska team in the Rose Bowl. People forget Miami struggled with Boston College and Virginia Tech that year. '95 Nebraska...they didn't struggle with anyone. They completely and utterly annihilated every team on their schedule.

You make a good point, but Miami's performances against Syracuse, Washington, and even Nebraska in the title game (before they started coasting at the half) were about as impressive as I've ever seen in college football.

What did you think about the officiating in the SECCG? Several friends of mine that were UT students or graduates (including my dad) had a lot of complaining to do after that game. You think we won that one fair and sqaure?

Good point about '01 Miami. Nebraska had no business being in that game after having been dragged up and down the field by Colorado. Tennessee, Texas, and Florida might have given the Canes a better game, but they all choked it away. The other two contenders would have been Colorado and Oregon, neither of whom could have kept up with Miami, so I'm not sure we ever would have gotten the national title game that would have been worth it unless Tennessee or Florida had played.

Yes. I believe the final score was 38-28. Tennessee really had no shot at stopping Auburn's offense. Every time they scored, Auburn answered.

This. "the best team" and "the most talented team" are not neccessarily the same thing. Its sorta like 71 nebraska. By the standard of putting guys in the pros, they were not an especially great team. But people that saw them play always rank them near the top on teams of the century.

Yeah. You were better than us, but I was pleased we at least gave you all a scare unlike the game in Neyland. No shame in losing to Auburn that year...would have taken some lucky breaks to win the title.

I see this one alot, but I feel like the '11 Bama team was better. No one except LSU challenged Alabama last year. In 2009 Bama had to scrape by mediocre Tennessee and Auburn teams.

09 Bama was on a mission though after how 08 ended. They made one qb cry and another one quit.
