The whole press was talking about that matchup before ATL. I couldn't believe it.

Yeah, people were throwing orange roses at the team when they got off the plane after the Florida game. I was perturbed at that. "Wait, no! We still have to play a game!" I shouted. "WAIT!!! We still have to play a ga-a-a-aaaaaame!" as the crowd swallowed me alive.

Oh well. The wounds from that game will not heal until we actually get good again. Until then Tennessee fans will look back and sigh with that far-away look in their eyes while watching our team squeak by UAB.

The best part was that despite beating us, UT was back in the Citrus Bowl where they belonged.

No, the best part was Spurrier quitting after losing to us We could pretend we had driven him off. That he couldn't stomach it.

Of course, he came back to exact his revenge. They always come back.

Which led to a top 5 UT team getting clowned at home by Ron Zook.

@ anyone who doesn't have the '95 Nebraska team number one. That team was unholy.

That 2002 team was a major, major letdown. Topped only by the 2005 team. We had so much returning talent and we looked like idiots against Alabama, Florida, and got housed by freaking Maryland.

cool spin off would be the top 5 teams not to win a national championship

Have to be 1. 2011 LSU, no? Trying hard to take off homer glasses.

I would think 2011 LSU would be in the top 5 second ranked finishers

Absolutely.

2011 LSU tops the list, 2001 Tennessee and 2004 Auburn would be up there too. Also like 1998 Ohio State.

Not hard enough.
Off the top of my head, 05 USC, 73 Oklahoma were better.

ETA: 73 Oklahoma's only non-victory that season was a 7-7 tie with #1 USC early in the season. The rest of the year was absolute dominance.

No, the number one team would be 2005 USC hands down. 2005 USC's offense was a greater force than 2011 LSU's defense and while their defense was shaky at times, it was still better than LSU's offense.

This is a monumental task, considering much of the audience.

1994 Penn State, 1966 Alabama, 2011 LSU, 1971 Nebraska. Just a few right there.

That was an incredible team, but all anyone remembers is them getting their asses stomped in by Nebraska.

The 86 Miami team that PSU beat for the title was a better squad (except for that one night with the 47 ints Vinnie threw)
