Yeah. It was his first year there, and he tells a story about that game occasionally when he gives speeches.

It was also the worst loss Nick Saban has suffered in his career thus far. The Cornhuskers gained almost 700 yards of total offense on him that day.

He actually lost by a bigger margin (55-14) to Nebraska the following year.

2004 USC - USC's offense wasn't quite fully mature yet but their defense was amazing and they went undefeated playing against a schedule with three teams that would finish in the top 10

2004 usc played fewer teams from the top 25 than 2009 alabama and had more close games.

You guys remember the 2001 Tennessee vs Florida game? Winner had inside track to BCSNC game. Game was delayed to last week of season because of 9/11. Tennessee went to the Swamp and won a thriller by 2. All UT had to do was beat a 8-4 LSU team in the SECCG......

But......

Plus we'd already beaten LSU that year.

Similar to Texas. All THEY had to do was beat a Colorado team they'd thrashed in the regular season in the Big 12 Title Game. And they lost. This opened the door for Tennessee. Who also promptly lost, given the QB draw which seemed to vex the coaches.

He's confusing the 2001 Florida/Tennessee game with the 2005 LSU/Tennessee game which was moved back a few days because of Hurricane Katrina.

2001 was Fulmer's last great year. It was also the last year of the old gaurd in the SEC. Nick Saban won LSU's first SEC title in 14 years. Florida lost The only great coach they'd ever had. Goergia, the next year, would win its first SEC title since, what, 82? LSU would later capture its first national title since 58.

Meanwhile, Phillip fulmer would never again finish in the top 10 and Spurrier would not do so until this year with south carolina.

Tennessee would have played Miami in the national championship game that year. They would have been screwed no matter what happened in the SEC Championship Game.

Kinda, but I had some friends come up and stay with me a couple months after Katrina. We watched that game, it was a Monday night

Maybe. But it would have been cool if Fulmer could have taken us to the Orange, Fiesta, and Rose Bowls in a span of 5 years.

The whole press was talking about that matchup before ATL. I couldn't believe it.

The best part was that despite beating us, UT was back in the Citrus Bowl where they belonged.
