I feel bad for you guys. I'm not gonna apologize b/c it's not my fault, but I do feel bad. Please don't take what some idiots say to heart as representative of the UNIVERSITY of Alabama and not just Alabama fans
But do you think Alabama's elitism and arrogance fosters Updykes of the world? Part of me feels like only Alabama could create something like Updyke. I have never seen Alabama fans acknowledge this as a possibility, or even a partial truth. I may not be your fault, but do you perpetuate a culture that allowed Updyke to believe what he did was reasonable? His primary motivation was a Scam Newton jersey t shirt duct taped to a statue of an alcoholic womanizer, am I correct? Was he the only gump mad at this? Part of me thinks that only at Alabama does this cult like atmosphere exists where a football coach obtained god-like status, to the point where a massive amount of fans felt like a jersey t shirt duct taped to a statue was equally as offensive as desecrating a religious icon.
I think the Alabama fan base is guilty, not just Updyke. Just my opinion.

Denny Chimes was structurally built to make it for another 100 years, better take it down now.

I'll take, "Couldn't get into Bama" for $200, Alex.
Probably couldn't even locate Tuscaloosa on a map

Easy to distinguish the sidewalk uodykes that also have too much bama in then, from the real fans in this thread.
While not a huge deal in the grand scheme of life, this is a sad end to a fun, even if silly, tradition shared by generations of fans.

Well, Updyke is likely going to serve some time in prison. I do think he understands he made a huge mistake -- not that I'm condoning what he did (far from it), but this gets at the heart of delusional fans and clingers who have essentially nothing to do with a school, as it pertains to alumni and the student body.
Whether or not he's sorry because he got caught, or because he now realizes that he made a huge error -- I don't know. His apology certainly sounded sincere. But he was obviously oblivious to exactly what makes college football so special. Particularly, the SEC.
Not only do we have the greatest teams, but we have the greatest traditions. And he screwed with traditions, and that's why people -- not just Auburn fans -- are still pissed. You don't frick with conference traditions. Because then you're fricking with everyone in the conference, not just the team you're hurting.

Not so sure. You even see from this thread over two years later with bama having won back to back NC's the utter trash that is a significant portion of the bama fanbase.
I have said many a time, there are good bama fans (including my 3 best friends that I have know most of my life), but there are a whole hell of a lot of absolutely pitiful asshats. More than in any fanbase in any sport in the entire U.S. And it IS a reflection on the University of Alabama as a whole no matter how you cut it.
