What part of Atlanta do you live ? I have a nephew who lives in Buckhead and he said that area is riddled with crime now. He has a lot of money, and money can't help you outrun the issues of Atlanta. Buckhead used to be bullet proof. Now downtown is so much worse. I guess your people huddle up in the corner and pretend everything is fine.

Atlanta has had a crime surge like every other big city. Buckhead definitely has declined, although I think the crime has slowed considerably with recent efforts.

But the reality is Buckhead is many places in one. You have the mall area, what most non-Atlantans think of as Buckhead. And then you have residential Buckhead, which can be close to that area or not. And then you have essentially North Buckhead/Chastain, which is kind of its own thing altogether.

We left Buckhead in part due to rising crime. But there are still lots of areas that are very high end and relatively safe. I'd argue 75% of Buckhead is still neighborhoods with expensive real estate and hot moms jogging on quiet, tree-lined streets.

Well that's definitely not true, but it does have a relatively large scene in various parts of the inner Metro (Midtown/Decatur specifically). But in shear numbers it isn't close to San Fransisco, Los Angeles, New York or probably Miami.

Well, my mistake - last time I was in Atlanta some dude was telling me ATL was the largest overall. He kept buying me drinks and telling me to move there.

I mean it sounds like a good thing that you left here and moved to Birmingham. You seem to like it there and clearly hated it here. There are literally millions of people who find living here just ok or even, gasp, enjoyable

Perhaps we're all making a massive, fatal error that will doom us and our children to a lifetime of pain and suffering. But for now, we're good.

rookhaven - along with thousands of other families who are living our lives with various levels of irritations and joys depending on the day or week. Crime has certainly gotten worse since the pandemic, yes. I don't know a single person that we interact with on a daily/weekly basis that has left the city or even considered it. It's not a thing. Kids staying in public school vs private? Constant discussion. Moving out of Atlanta for somewhere else because of safety? Quite literally never discussed.

I dunno anyone huddling in a corner Just working, going to softball fields, walking to dinner on Friday night, going to Braves games, going to church. Normal life activities.

Not what I am hearing. Are you holding your breath about the race for the Governor's Office. Most I talk to feel that will be the final nail in Georgia. A mass exodus out of the state for those who can afford it.

By all means go by what you are “hearing” rather than what Atlanta residents are telling you

Kemp is heavily favored to win. The other candidate seems to only want to run for President.

Many Auburn graduates move here because they are from here. They weren't smart enough to get into UGA or Georgia Tech, and didn't want the Kennesaw State college experience, so paid out-of-state tuition to go to Auburn, then move back when they graduate.

Garbage in, garbage out.

Why did you reference Auburn fans in the post topic but Auburn graduates in the actual post? Those are two wholly different things. Most UGA fans in Atlanta (and the rest of Georgia) didn't go to UGA either. They went to one of the directional state schools in Georgia or nowhere at all.

As to tons of Auburn fans living in Atlanta...sure there are plenty who are from Atlanta originally, but Atlanta is also a hub for graduates from Clemson, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and a host of other universities across the southeast and united states. It's one of the biggest cities in the country, so yeah it's not shocking a lot of grads from a college less than 2 hours away will find work in Atlanta after graduation.

someone with a college degree working in Atlanta is now garbage? Might want to address all the actual garbage that never leaves Atlanta first, not someone getting a college degree and actually coming back home to earn a living being a contributing member of society.

Also, lol at you if you attended UGA before HOPE existed, because that's the only reason UGA is difficult to get into.

Kemp is up like 8 in the aggregate poll and there is no enthusiasm for Abrams. We're getting to the point where unless there is a big tightening this month, it's going to be a shock if she pulls it off.

Warnock is another story, but that's the status quo so I doubt it moves the needle for anyone.

LOL I mean, alright. Then whoever you are hearing from should probably move somewhere where they feel more comfortable? I'm not sure how to answer that.

I live here, so my entire life is "what I'm hearing"

I feel confident that Kemp will win by a solid margin. I would not be encouraged if by some way the outcome went the other way. Things would have to change in a very, very large way in the next month for that to happen.

You don't actually think that it's more difficult to get into Auburn than Georgia, do you?

ATL is definitely the gay mecca of the South. But nationwide, highly doubtful.

This thread keeps getting derailed to Huntsville vs Atlanta, Birmingham vs Atlanta, Atlanta blue, Joe Biden, etc. But it has nothing to do with the fact that Auburn has been, and continues to be, a backup school for mediocre suburban ATL kids who can't get into UGA or Tech, or Emory, and don't want the college "experience" that KSU offers (even though it is a solid school), so they go to Auburn. Can they leverage that into a solid degree and solid career? Of course they can. But they still couldn't get into UGA. And they still move back to ATL suburbs en masse when they graduate from Auburn. And that's why there's so many Aubies around here in the ATL metro. Not one person in this surprisingly long thread has legitimately disputed a single one of those facts. Just derail, derail, derail.

When I lived in Atlanta from 2011-2014, it had the highest gay population per capita in the United States. No idea if that's changed or not.

Literally pick any boring arse conservative who ran for any national office in Georgia over the last 25 years and they win that race by 5-6 points.

But no, had to go with a literal insane person because he toted the rock for the Dawgs. And, just like last time with Sgt Jean Jacket and Lady Wall Street, it will cost them.

Yea, was going to say, if it's "per capita" and only the city itself (which of course is much smaller population wise than a lot of other large metro city only pops), it certainly could be at the top.

Again, I have a relative in Buckhead that has discussed these issues. I also know a few people I keep up with who are disgusted with the direction of the city and state. Most have real money, but will wait it out.

My son works for a company that has offices in Atlanta and Birmingham and he said that nobody prefers the Atlanta office due to the issues discussed. Some are force over there, but that is life.

Not sure why you're calling Auburn graduates garbage, but if that's how you feel about your gay mecca, so be it. Maybe the gayness is why Auburn grads move there? I don't judge.

Nonetheless, I'm from Florida, was accepted to large FL state schools, didn't apply to UGA, and chose Auburn. I must be a unicorn.

My wife has been a HS counselor for 15 years in Cobb. I can tell you that you are wrong, at least in respect to Auburn

Yes, there are people that are very angry about the city and state. There are also a lot of people who are upset about some issues and looking for some changes. There are also some people who are very happy with their lives.

Your argument was that EVERYONE was leaving and EVERYONE hated it. In reality, you have some friends in Buckhead who probably wanted Buckhead to be allowed to get out of Atlanta (understandably) and are pissed off that once again they were told to kick rocks. There are a whole lot of people in Buckhead that are fuming about that situation and how it was handled and the fact that Kemp basically punted it back to the state legislature.

Well I work for a company that has offices in Atlanta and Birmingham and Atlanta is by far the preferred destination for anyone that didn't go to school in Tuscaloosa (including Auburn) and has been for a decade plus.
