Just staggering lack of self-awareness
I like playing along with teh "auburn backup school/can't get into uga" trope as much as the next guy, but you have to admit there is quite a bit of truth to it. And it's not just message board fodder, its' stuff that is quantifiable and can easily be supported with admission statistics. Look at how many AU students are from GA; I'm sure it's an extremely high number and almost certainly the most attendees from somewhere other than Alabama. You can also look at the admission entry requirements at both schools. It's not really some huge far fetched fairy tale to suggest that a good many kids (especially in gwinnett and other crowded metro areas) applied to home state UGA but didn't get in and went to AU isntead.
ETA: i think the funny thing is why AU people get so irritated by it. I am SURE that there are lots of kids in Georgia that apply to duke or UNC or Vandy or tech or emory or wherver that don't get in then go to UGA as their backup schoo. It doesn't rustle me or any of our fans though to acknowledge it.

Why would they want to live in a blue state?
We have constitutional carry now in GA but sure, keep thinking we're a blue state.

So that's the reason all those fortune 500 companies moved their HQ's to Birmingham?
Those fortune 500 companies moved to Atlanta due to space downtown, numbers of hiring candidates, minority hiring and the tax breaks the State offers. Birmingham is medical and banking, which attacks a certain profile of employees.

I lived in Atlanta 3 times over a 30-year period, They have had traffic issues the entire time. It is a dump now.

I know plenty of UGA fans who get rustled over GT being a better school.

I bring it up because a) it's most often used by people who can be immediately punked on it and b) I'm immune to the insult

Is alabama blue simply because birmingham and montgomery are both heavy democratic areas? Of course not.
Atlanta is mega blue. Other little pockets like savannah and macon are blue. The rest of the state overall is as red as it is in any other deep south state.

DAmn, going back 30 years, how good of a school was Auburn 35 years ago?
I know many people who live in Atlanta now. Most want to get the frick out of there. It really isn't a joke, GA has crashed and burned the last 10 years. It starts in Atlanta, but it is bleeding over to other cities. Look who might be their next Govenor and if that happens, we in Alabama will have to build a Wall.

I find this hard to believe, or the "fans" you're talking to are dumb.

I’m not mad. Glad to finally have a couple of Senators who represent me!

Alabama has more students from Georgia than Auburn does.

Among the in town and higher end suburb crowd, Alabama is probably benefitting more from the UGA rejections than Auburn right now.
Alabama football success and especially greek life (mostly girls) is making them a high second choice in Buckhead/Sandy Springs/etc.

Someone from Birmingham shitting on Atlanta is about as bad as the Baton Rouge and NOLA posters on here.

The reality is UGA/AU are very similar schools. In the scheme of things they are much closer to each other than either of them is to a Ga Tech/Vandy.

It's just cute for him to claim that about Auburn but not UGA. The joke about "what does the UGA grad call the GT grad?" still exists because they get mad over it.

I don't see how any of this is germane to the topic at hand.
Georgia high school kids who can't get into UGA or Tech are using Auburn as a backup school. And when they graduate, they come back to Georgia. That's why there's so many Auburn fans around here. There's nothing political about it.
