The difference then was from 1947 up until 1990, Ole Miss had generally dominated the series with State having a pocket of success from 1974-1982. He ended that 40+ years of Ole Miss counting that game as a W before the season started.


Sherrill and Brewer hated each other. Sherrill infuriated the Ole Miss faithful by calling them Mississippi. And then further infuriated them by State beating Ole Miss and finally making the rivalry competitive again (which has carried forth to the present day).

I remember Rick Cleveland saying in the early 90’s that only one of them would survive and he was correct as it was Brewer who was fired in 1994. Mississippi was not big enough for their two egos.

I can’t believe Cowbells in Starkville closed down.

I took home many girls with daddy issues from that bar back in college. Also they had a great ribeye special for 20 bucks you got a 16oz ribeye with baked potato and salad. I finished at State in 2013.

A year or so ago I stopped by cowbells on way home from Alabama to eat dinner for nostalgia. Been 8-9 years since I walked in that bar and soon as I walk in the bartenders who were surprisingly the same ones from when I was at MSU all called out to me by name. I said y’all really remember me out of all the college students that came through here?

They said I was unforgettable. I’m not sure whether I should be proud of that or not.
