TN sports talk radio. They really believe Vols will hire a top shelf coach.

And I don’t understand the thinking.

Why would an established coach want a team with a depleted roster AND NCAA storm clouds on the horizon?

I think the UT head coach job is a good one under normal circumstances, but it is a kamikaze mission as it now stands.

It’s probably even too risky for a mid tier guy.

It's still a big 6 job. If you want in the SEC, you take it.

But there’s no way this hire lasts more than 3 seasons.

Boys. Joker Phillips is the man they want. He turned Kentucky around from 7-5 to 2-10 in only 3 years! Ended overcrowding in the stadium. Reduced greenhouse gasses on Saturdays in Lexington. Didn't have to worry about losing money going to a lesser bowl. Gave Division I scholarships to the athletically challenged. I bet you can get him cheap.
Be a good way to get a dig in at UK. Hire the man.

We had a special light in the stadium during year 3.

The last happy memory the Vols have is the 2016 Hail Mary to beat UGA in Sanford, when Butch fell to his knees on the field and cried like a baby.

Tennessee is a garbage program and their fans are garbage people.

Yeah. I listen to Tony Basilio for pure entertainment. They melt like no other fanbase and Basilio is a certified nut job.

But what's funny is that they think they are more important than they actually are.
One caller said the other day that "the SEC audibly gasped and were shocked" out of fear when Danny White was named as their AD.
There is not one hire they can make that will make anyone in the SEC do that.

The basis for a solid roster is there, the new guy gets 2 years of low pressure, and the university has top resources/facilities/fans. It’s a big 6 top 10 all time wins and can get back competitive quickly.

If you are a coach and want a big time shot this is a solid option.

History shows otherwise.

Historically, yes...but UT has serious headwinds.

They face unfavorable in-state demographics for star recruits. UT has typically benefited from being able to pull top recruits from GA and the Carolinas. UGA & Clemson have those areas locked down now, and they haven’t been successful in keeping the handful of good recruits from middle TN. Memphis doesn’t produce enough 4-5* players to have an impact.

The Vols may get back, but they’re nowhere close at the moment and things are trending down. They will be fortunate to barely compete for the SECW in the next 5 seasons.

They'll go the OM route and hire their version of Matt Luke.

At this point you’d think the Jeff Fisher route is gaining steam.

I sincerely can’t stand Fisher.

The dude is pure mediocrity.
