My mind is boggling. I've heard the comment before from people that owned horses that "Horses eat money."
The other day someon on the radio said that South Carolina Ladies' Equestrian team had an event in South Dakota. Given transportation costs, my take on the crowd that shows to watch these events, no money from TV coverage...
Just can't see any way possible. But if it's a fact, it's a fact.

The core of the problem is any system that allows division of money allows the folks with no reason to feed at the trough.
A lawyer, agent, baby momma, or entourage hoping to suck at the teat of the actual star can take a slice when the slice is cash or near cash payment.
Much harder for say a street agent to take a slice of a college education or free room and board.
Anytime you see an argument for paying players it is usually promoted by those who would profit from it.
Think about this in future discussions and figure a way to reward the athlete without paying him.
Full ride to finish a degree
Free room and board
Money management classes taught by school
Time management classe to better prepare a kid for life
Continuing education potential to increase earning / wealth retention post career

It fixes nothing. Right now every player is paid basically the same from their stipend. Teams cheat to pay more illegally to get recruits.
If you pay them all $50,000 then teams will still cheat to pay them more illegally to get recruits.

FWIW, they bring horses to events. You ride the horses provided by event location

I'm sure they could work something out. Schools get their choice of tops and pants, player gets socks and shoes, etc. Something like that. Shoes must match color scheme of school's choosing.

The thing is, the apparel companies focus on the shoes more than anything in the contracts with the schools.

Agreed, if Ford, GM and Chrysler can work together to build transmissions, the shoe companies can do it. ITs just against everything the stand for now

Is this really true? Most people don't watch college sports for the players. If you replaced AU and Alabama's teams with a bunch of average students, BDS/JHS would still be packed for an Iron Bowl without talent.

It would be closer to a good high school game. If everyone watching based on talent, why does anyone prefer college to the NFL or NBA? Brands are what matters in college athletics.

Hell no to paying players. They already get paid with a free education to a prestigious university and the college experience for them is better than for a normal student. They get pussy thrown at them constantly and any kid who was on the team at Alabama, LSU, Auburn, etc will have job opportunities available to them that the average student would not. Now, providing a stipend for them to afford the necessities is another thing entirely.

School shouldn’t pay them. They’re getting “paid” already with a college education. I do think they should be allowed endorsements tho. If NCAA Football 2017 wants to use them in a game, ok. If Nike wants to use them in commercials they should be allowed to. The kid should be allowed to establish himself as a brand and be paid for that brand.
