1. Arkansas-Mississippi Delta Blues - withstood the test of time

2. New Orleans jazz to Lake Charles zydeco -

3. Oklahoma Red Dirt country tied with...

3. Austin, Texas based country

5. Eastern Kentucky and East Tennessee bluegrass

6. Muscle Shoals, Alabama - nothing but love

7. Macon, GA - the birthplace of southern rock? I want this to be #1, but it's been so long since the Allman Bros and Marshall Tucker, my heroes as a small child.

8. Athens/Atlanta - REM to Black Crowes and Et Cetera

9. Memphis - great job...a hundred years ago.

10. Nashville - Look at us! We suck! We ruined country music! yeah, NOT Music City

Unranked - Branson - But actually, probably better than Nashville

As far as a venue for live music, The Varsity in BR right outside of LSU is really good. Seen a lot of good bands there including Incubus and 311. Also saw The Crystal Method do a live DJ set that unreal.

I don't in general have a problem with your list, but a lot more red dirt country gets made by Texas artists than Oklahoma artists.

Athens/Atlanta is not the same place. Athens should top this list. REM, Widespread Panic, B 52s, Pylon, Drive By Truckers, etc.

Totally agree. However, the delta is not a destination, so you go where all those people went: Memphis. Then you also have a lot of other great music history plus the best food money can buy.
My only complaint about Memphis is their drinks are too sweet, like New Orleans, and you don’t want to walk too far at night.

I've been down in the deep gullet of Texas and loved every song on the radio

only reason the cartels didn't grab me was I hadn't had a bath in a week
