1995 Nebraska is probably the most physically dominant team I've ever seen. It's a little sad how far that program has fallen since then.

No argument against 2019 LSU being in consideration. Won all their games against a strong schedule that included 7 ranked teams (including a ranked OOC road game against Texas) by an average of 25.9 ppg.

I do wonder why the 2020 Alabama team gets completely overlooked when looking at great all time teams though. That team went undefeated with an average winning margin of 29.1 ppg against a conference only regular season schedule which included 6 overall wins against ranked teams that season. In fact, the 2020 Alabama team and the 2019 LSU were remarkably similar in how they dismantled nearly every team on their respective schedules those seasons

1995 Nebraska is the most dominant teams ever including the nc game
UGA 2022 is second .
LSU maybe 3rd can’t consider the dominant because of the defense.

Best defensive performance in a NC game goes to my Sooners in 2000
0 defensive points given up .

95' Nebraska, what they did to Florida was like watching men playing against a pee wee football team. Nebraska did the same to Tn. the following year.

We suffer from recency bias. 1944-45 Army has to be in consideration and 1899 Sewanee would like to put their thang down.

Oh by the way the only time in history two Heisman winners lined up on a team and they still lost

That you list 2001 Miami over that is laughable. They might have been a better collection of talent but that team got lucky Solich came in #2 in the BCS
Great team, great championship game, but not the best team ever. Top 10 probably, but prob still out of the top 5.

Ironically enough, if usc had won that game to win a “third” title in a row, they would always be in consideration for this list. Funny how it works.

The answer here is 2019 LSU. Followed by, in no particular order, 1995 Nebraska, 2001 Miami, 2022 Georgia and 1901 Michigan

Yep, and I get that to a certain extent but it's a shame considering how insanely dominant that team was.

Outside of one competitive 6 point win against a very good #7 ranked Florida team in the SEC Championship game, that team beat the other 12 teams on a schedule that included 6 ranked teams...5 of which were ranked #13 or better and 4 of which were ranked #7 or better by an average of 31 ppg. Covid or not, that's an amazing stat

1995 Nebraska is overrated.

Let me give you guys a history lesson on the Osborne era…

Osborne coached at Nebraska starting in 1973. He coached 21 years before winning his first national title. There are a few reasons for that drought that 1995 Nebraska didn’t have to worry about.

1. For the first 16 years of his tenure (1973-1988), Osborne had to deal with an elite OU program under Barry Switzer. Switzer was 12-5 against Osborne and shut his offense down routinely with great defensive players like the Selmon brothers, Bosworth, Casillas, etc.

In 1995, Nebraska didn’t have to deal with that shite. OU was at rock bottom.

2. The only other Big 8 team who was ever a contender in the Osborne era was Colorado under Bill McCartney.

In 1995, guess who was not at Colorado?

3. Osborne played some good OOC teams at times during his tenure. He had a HAH against Bryant. Played Washington the year they won the natty.

In 1995? Best OOC opponent won six games.

4. 11 regular season games, no conference championship, no semifinal.

5. Was the 1995 Florida team a great one? Yes, BUT were they as well equipped to defend Osborne’s offense as the FSU and Miami teams that handed him seven straight bowl losses from 1987-1993 and damn near did so in 1994? No. That UF team was young and there was not a single elite defender on the squad. No one drafted higher than the 3rd round over the next three years. Certainly no Cortez Kennedy, Michael Barrow, Jesse Armstead, Derrick Brooks, Ray Lewis, or Warren Sapp. Those teams and coaches also saw Nebraska on the regular and were more familiar with their schemes.

Give Osborne’s 1973-1994 teams rock bottom Oklahoma, no McCartney, mediocre OOC opponents, and a soft, pass happy bowl opponent with no experience against his offense and he would have won more national titles.

1995 Nebraska had it easy.

Put an I formation offense with no NFL arm, receivers who were not even drafted, a colossal bust and head case at TB, and no one special in the OL up against a defense like 2021 UGA and they would get stuffed.

And Vagina Tech too. Kevin Jones ran for 160 yards on 24 carries through that defense.
