Heard a prominent radio host reason that the reason Clowney was very underwhelming this year is he was an eye-witness of what happened to Marcus Lattimore.

A consensus first round pick who had his career basically ended because of an injury and that is why Clowney was so stand-offish this year after dominating his first two seasons.

With all the talk before last season about Clowney even possibly sitting the season to avoid injury, I actually buy this point of view.

He was overrated from the get-go, as I said many times the past 3 years and was laughed at. He has tons of talent, but not the whole package of intangibles that make up elite players.

I still say he's over hyped BUT at the same time, it's actually kind of hard to disagree with the SC fans saying he did that to avoid an injury.

my problem with this mentality is when do you supposedly kick it into gear? After you are paid, whats the point? you got your money. or lets say he might be up for renegotiation, does he take off because it might ruin his next contract? slippery slope

Then he just should have sat out this year and gone to some training guru and no one outside of SC would have cared and/or blamed him.

He's a B- player at best and everyone is losing their minds over him.

He's made 3 plays in his career that made you say, "whoa."

A guy with horrible work ethic, lack of following the law, and a 1 good play per year type player....go up to Canada with that noise.

This may very well be true but I don't excuse it. You play in a very violent sport you take that chance every game Paid or not. When you start protecting yourself you no longer contribute to the team and everyone suffers. I've heard this was the prevailing mentality many of UF's seniors had late in 09 that contributed to our poor effort in the SECCG.

You are right. Clowney isn't good enough for the NFL. At best, he'd be lucky to get a tryout with a CFL team. Thug tPOS.

I think he's going to be pretty damn good in the NFL. You can say he dogged it during last season but he was still showing things 99% of DE's can't replicate.

He is an A+ player at best, but he has to reach his potential, thats the problem.
