Not sure why actual attendance stats mean much aside from concessions sales...wouldn't ticket sales be the biggest stat?

So the best-attended games were those within driving distance of the bulk of the teams' fans.

Shocking.

Yeah I was at the Peach Bowl and when they announced that was the largest crowd ever for a football game at the Georgia Dome I was very surprised by that.

I'm sure that grueling two hour road trip from Knoxville to Nashville was brutal.

Quit playing these games on Monday,

This is a big part of the problem. Tough for a lot of people to get off the extra day right after the holidays for a game.

So vols embrace mediocrity

One, I went to the game and there were tons of Huskers there. I'm guessing they embrace any chance to get out of Nebraska.

Secondly, the bowl is in middle Tennessee. Of course there would be a ton of UT fans there. Its in the perfect location for short drives for fans anywhere in the state.

Well, it was Nashville. It's not like they had to spend any real money to travel.

And yeah...the weather was beautiful.

So that's why the music city bowl consistently is better attended than the sugar bowl

I didnt travel for the sugar bowl because I wasnt enthusiastic about the match up and I dont particularly like chocolate city.

Honestly, I'm going to guess that what you weren't enthused about was Auburn, and possibly Auburn's chances of winning.. It's hard to pretend Oklahoma, a traditional blue-blood with a 10-2 record is somehow an unexciting match-up.

Nashville > New Orleans

There was a a time when I'd have given you a downvote, but now I agree. New Orleans smells like urine, and I've personally seen the same lipstick stained glass rested on a urinal two days in a row in N.O., in a reportedly "upscale" bar.

Nasty, nasty place.

That's on you. Nashville no different. It's part of the appeal to regular visitors.

ESPN's ratings are also down. "Football sickness" is dying out with the Millennials. Why am I here...

Everyone laughs at the Texas bowl but they are averaging 70,000 the last couple of years.

I'll cede to your knowledge of the area(s) - I've only visited either for work or vacation. I can say that the tourist part of New Orleans (and the city part) where I worked constantly smelled of piss.

In Nashville as a tourist, I drank too much on music row and don't really recall the aroma in general. I don't remember stink so much as a hefty woman offering to give me a haircut in her room. I woke up in my room, with a haircut. Maybe hypnosis can bring the rest of the evening back...
