Even in a losing effort, 2013 was fun.

No it wasn't.

Best games:
Alabama jumps to a decent lead, but Florida roars back to tie it at 21. Florida has the ball in their own territory, and Antonio Langham scores with a pick-6. Alabama goes on to win the National Championship over heavily-favored Miami, destroying the Hurricanes.
Eddie Lake sealed the deal in a back-and-forth contest that had Alabama down by 1 with 56 seconds left before Lake intercepted the ball, ending the game. Alabama would finish the season 11-1, this game keeping Alabama from being in the conversation of a second title for Stallings.
A crazy game that saw Auburn score 20 unanswered before Tennessee turned around and outscore Auburn 13-2 in the final quarter and a half (with the 2 coming from a blocked XP and returned by Auburn).
"No one beats Steve Spurrier twice in the same season."
Except Mike DuBose, apparently.
Nothing super crazy here, except for one fact: This started a 15-season trend of teams who won the SECCG also entering the post-season with a chance at the national championship.
In route to LSU's second national tile of the decade, this was a defensive battle that saw LSU gain over 400 yards of offense but only score 14 points when in possession. Eric Ainge threw a pick-6 to Jonathan Zenon in the 4th quarter, the only points LSU scored in the last 25+ minutes of game play, but would prove to be enough.
Alabama and their come-from-behind victories over UGA, ending their chances at a national championship. (See also: 2017 CFP National Championship Game)*
*In all 3 games, UGA had double-digit leads at some point in the second half.
What was supposed to be a blowout saw a scrappy Florida team constantly come back and keep the game close, forcing Alabama to constantly score to keep them from pulling the win.
Defacto play-in games (both teams playing for a chance at the national title):

The 98 one because that game was the reason for the ones before it. That game was for a spot in the first BCS title. The game that established what a college football championship was supposed to be.
For Tennessee it was, but it wasn't like 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2018 when both teams had a shot.

We already know it will be as it should be. Bama vs Florida. Should just skip the season and go directly to that game make it easier on everyone.

The ending really, really sucked for me, but I would imagine that this was the best one to watch for neutral fans. This is one of the best college football games I have ever seen, period.
Was a great game for fans of any team or either of the two involved teams. I enjoyed the pure hell out of it. I knew we were not out of the woods when Aaron Murray got the ball at the end. I am still surprised that Georgia didn't win that one at the end.

On that note.
Matchups that have occurred more than once:
Florida vs Alabama 10 times, Alabama 6–4
Georgia vs LSU 4 times, LSU 3–1
Georgia vs Alabama 2 times, Alabama 2–0
Florida vs Arkansas 2 times, Florida 2–0
Tennessee vs Auburn 2 times, Tied 1–1
Tennessee vs LSU 2 times, LSU 2–0

Also of the so called "Big 6", the only permanent opponents who have played in the SECCG is Auburn and Georgia in 2017, with Georgia avenging their loss to Auburn just 3 weeks prior.
Alabama/Tennessee and LSU/Florida have never played each other in this game.

The very first SECCG stood in the way of setting up an 1 v. 2 bowl coalition game. Alabama not being upset by Florida probably saved the SECCG from an early grave.

Not a troll post, but I really am surprised at how few Championship games UGA has won. For a while the Gators were running away with things.
Spurrier went 11-1 against UGA, while with the Gators.

Auburn and UF in 2000. We were still permanent opponents.

1992 was an all time classic.
Certainly was my favorite. I was a freshman and at Legion Field and watched "the play that changed college football forever" live. I still remember thousands of people yelling "go, go, go!" when Langham intercepted the ball. I think we all realized that we would probably lose if our defense didn't score. After the announcemment of that game a couple of years before, I remember reading many articles from around the SEC college town newspapers that the new format would keep the SEC out of playing for a National Championship. A myth that was busted in year 1.

The inaugural game, my freshman year at UA. Langham’s pick happened right in front of where we were sitting. Legion Field erupted, still one of my all time favorite games.

You'd swear there was only 3 teams in the west if you were looking at the winning side
Posted on 7/5/21 at 3:57 pm to FLObserver
So the SEC East has two non-participants in Kentucky and Vanderbilt. SEC West has Ole Miss and Texas A&M.
My guess is that the West will eventually get all 7 teams in the SECCG. I doubt Vanderbilt will ever be able to pull it off.

The permanent matchup disparity is to blame for this.

Ray Goff and Jim Donnan really, really didn't help. Both had national championship level talent and really squandered it. Goff probably had the most talented team in the country in 1992.
