List is suspect anytime Ohio State is #1 for this question

List is sh*t as Southern California is not on it, should have been #2

I think the hate for A&M is bigger than football. Most of the workforce in Texas and in O&G have Aggy bosses. Most people don’t like being told what to do. Simple as that.

My experience in Texas is that people do the sort of "LOL we're not concerned about those goofballs at A&M" thing. Sort of like UGA people do with Georgia Tech, but it's more contrived considering A&M is either better or a legitimate threat to the other programs in state. I'm sure that's made easier to do with a straight face when Texas doesn't have to play you.

Fair list.

Don't agree with Clemson Oregon or A&M from a national standpoint.

Your defense is appreciated for sure, but he kinda had a point in a way.

Without the SEC brand we were pretty much unknown nationally, it has been a huge boost for us.

Plus selling playing SEC football to Texas kids has greatly increased the quality of our recruiting, to the detriment of Big 12 programs.

Their are upset because they never saw that coming. We were a fly on the cow's arse to them in the Big 12, and then honestly thought the league would be upgraded swapping us for TCU because they look at everything through a football quality lense instead of seeing the bigger brand battles at play.

By the time the Sooners caught onto the fact they were stuck in a shitty secondrate conference while we were getting a big conference boost it was too late to change it. They have done well in a reformulated Big 12 since then on the field, but the reality is that recruiting in Texas is harder than ever before thanks to us and their safety net regionally with recruits has been decreased thanks to us.

Games are on too late and I'm already passed out drunk from our game that was earlier in the day.

Meh. There are only certain fanbases that hate Auburn. Like Bama, UGA, Arky, and LSU. Most don't care. The schools with arrogant fans that do and say dumb things publicly are the ones no one likes. Especially when the schools are down for several years and the fans try to act like they aren't just because their name.

Some people will hate "plucky" teams, so there are probably some who hold a grudge against AU for that. There is a contingent of sports fans in America who love Lebron, the Yankees, Alabama, Duke and Tiger Woods, and they have angst when athletes/programs frick up the world order. Always seemed weird to me, but I think Auburn probably draws some haters because of it.

But Auburn will never escape the reality of being the #2 team in a relatively unimportant state in a sport that is still, in some ways, regional. So I think we'll really only be hated if we're under the gun for "cheating" or we have a controversial athlete on the team. Or if we start winning at some extremely high clip (see Clemson).

I think the dislike that built up for Auburn after a string of accusations and the Cam stuff died down a lot after 2013. The 2013 team was fun to watch, and people like cool sports moments. Auburn arguably gave you 3 that year (if you count being on the losing end in a close title game), so I think that season really made Auburn a far less controversial program.

That was the Big 12 era rationale for sure. "OU is the true rival" is how I used to put it.

But the SEC move changed that, and now many of those same people are obsessed with the evil that has infiltrated our state called the SEC which now includes us.

Also you are mostly talking from the perspective of Texas fans, but there are more than Texas fans in the state and each of them have their own reasons to hate us:

Baylor- us leaving showed how screwed they were if the Big 12 folded despite them being in the middle of a historical run football wise.

TCU- so fricking pissed that we steal so much of the spotlight with our mediocrity while they are a good program that is mostly ignored nationally. Our better recruiting in particular really upsets them.

Texas Tech- pissed we got out and they can't. Pissed that for a while there they had us on the ropes as the second most popular team in the state and then in one SEC move we built a moat they can never cross

Yeah I only have A&M/Texas/SMU people in my family so I don't hear first hand stuff from the others.

I think a lot of the hate Auburn gets is because people see a school named after a small town, that's #2 in a mid-sized state like you said, and they see their state school and get mad because they think they should be better.

Yeah, I think it's usually fleeting and it's partially dependent on us being good. I think that permanently bothers some flagships in the conference (Arky, for example, UGA, at least in the past), but for most others it'll probably be temporary.

I could see Penn State fans or something getting annoyed when we get the benefit of the doubt, on the basis that we're not even the primary school from a state they consider inferior. Though I will say I think the SEC's long term dominance has made it harder to whine about that without seeming pretty stupid.

It's about perception, don't get butthurt

Also, reaching back 5+ decades doesn't help the case.

Living outside of SEC country that is completely false. frick all the sudden I've started seeing more Bama shite around here. Maybe it's just the city, but they love their juggernauts. Also they probably couldn't name who the other schools are in the conference outside of Bama,Tenn, LSU, Florida, Georgia and Auburn.

You're using NY as a barometer of cfb? Go to a Big10 city, or a Big12 hot bed, and see what gets the fans attention. Mention that there is no SEC bias and see if anybody has an opinion

I lived in Chicago for a summer once for an internship and didn't get the vibe.

I mean I guess I gotta go live in Bloomington Indiana or some shite? But who the hell wants to go there?

I guess I have to go to other college towns, not big cities.
Boston doesn't care, Chicago didn't either.
But don't tell me we don't hate the Big 12 or Big10 in our college towns.
