There is no telling how it shakes out because it's not consistent

Kirk Herbstreet 2007- A team that did not win it's conference should not be allowed to play for a national championship

Kirk Herbstreet 2011- It should be the best two teams, not winning your conference shouldn't matter.

They're going to select who the hell they want

No, no, no, no, no, and no!

Especially if those two teams have already played. Head to head matchups have to count for something.

"But they're the best two teams."

"Yes, and one of them has proven to be better than the other one."

Do-overs are for pussies.

The precedent was set when Ohio State in 2016 made the playoffs over a 2-loss division and conference winner that beat them.

In 2016, Penn State beat Ohio State 24-21 that year, but lost to Michigan 49-10. That's why Penn State didn't go, a 39 point blow out disqualified them.

Also, Ohio State was tied with Penn State in the divisional ranking, and Penn State won the tie breaker to go to the B1G-CG. It's the exact same scenario that Bama used in 2017, tied with Auburn but Auburn won the tie breaker to make to make the SEC-CG.

This year, Bama is NOT and will NOT be tied with LSU with the same 1 loss division record, but they still want some damn special dispensation to make it even though at best they can only have 1 Top 15 victory on their lame resume.

The majority of the teams that make the CFP have a loss. There is no reason to say a loss to a bad team (who is no threat to win your division) is better than a loss to a good team. The committee is currently charged with picking the four best teams, so that means they are allowed to use reason to decide if a conference winner is better or worse than a team that didn’t win its conference. If we want to change the rules to make it a conference champion tournament, then we should do so.

The committees job is not to find the best team.

It's to find the four best teams.

You claiming two of the four best teams can not reside in the same division makes zero sense when broken down with even basic logic.

This isn't the Supreme Court. Once you frick up, you don't have to live with it forever.

If I were LSU fans, I’d be excited to play bama again if the opportunity presented itself.

You didn't watch the same game I did. If LSU doesn't make that miraculous tip toe catch at the goal line there would not have been enough time for the last TD of 2nd quarter. What about the interception that got called back for the substitution penalty? Bama wasn't ready for that game but with a healthy Tua in a rematch they will be. I guarantee you if you did a poll here LSU absolutely doesn't want to play us again. But, I hate rematches even though it benefits us this time and in 2011. Beating a really good team twice is hard as hell. If we had beaten LSU I would not want a rematch.

I agree. Diminishing conference championships is ruining CFB. Constantly giving the “best teams” is not only unfair, it all but guarantees the same handful of teams is constantly in the playoffs.

Win your conference or STFU.

FWIW, 2016 Ohio St and 2017 Alabama did indeed win their division.

To be fair, Alabama doesn't have a single win against a team currently ranked in the top 25.

But then again, LSU doesn't have the quality loss that Alabama does.

OSU had a very impressive resume though.

win @ #6 Michigan
win @ #7 Oklahoma
win @ #8 Wisconsin
loo @ #5 Penn St by 7 (who had a bye while OSU played a week after @ Wisconsin)

What does that have to do with the committee taking multiple teams in a division?

If two of the four best teams in the country are in a division, both deserve to be in the playoffs.

Once again.

The job of the committee is to find the four best teams. Not the best team.
