NIL isn’t really a problem, not sure why people are making it the issue.

The transfer portal however is. They’re going to have to go back to the sit a year if you transfer.

It will get out of control if they don’t. When you have thousands of players transferring it’s already a problem.

There is no legislation that can affect NIL. There is no governing body that can effectively change it.

NIL is 3rd party contracts for name, image, and likeness.
If you remove NIL collectives, then established marketing companies will effectively run the same thing for a fee (it is literally their job). Nothing changes.

NIL is here to stay by Supreme Court order.
Mandatory undergrad redshirt after transfers on the other hand... it puts restrictions on free agency in a general sense.

You only get one free transfer then you have to sit a year if transferring again

*grad students get a free one as well.

The problem is not with the free market. It’s that these athletic departments are entangled with state universities. They are operating way outside their charter. Of course you could say they are already running a numbers racquet exceeding Vegas casinos in the lottery, why not add professional sports to their portfolio.

But if it’s not regulated to some degree, greed will collapse the whole thing. And then nobody makes any money. It will go the way of NASCAR.

I was wondering the same thing. Who is this almighty “they”?

The coaches with massive influence and the NCAA who makes the rules.

I doubt “they” have more power than the Supreme Court and the SC has already decided players should be paid a “fair market rate”. If “they” step in and decide what that fair market rate is, that is price fixing and it’s illegal.

They don't have to. Who stated that was the way to fix this.

Like I said. Change the portal date to after summer work outs and it will control it. Do it for 2 weeks.

Exactly.

The other issue is talking to players about transferring before the portal.

The only way this really happens is collective bargaining. Either that, or wild west.

I love the disruption of the old order this is causing. That's one of the ways you can tell it's good.

It always amazes me at how generally stupid the average CFB fan is. What you proposed is quite literally already in place. You have one free transfer. Your second transfer will cause you to sit a year unless you are approved with an NCAA waiver.

Obviously it’s pretty easy to skirt the rules when JT daniels has already done it three times and was eligible to play and is in the portal again. Maybe I can dumb it down since, according to you, the average CFB fan is generally stupid. Make it very difficult to transfer more than once. It doesn’t appear to be very hard to get a waiver the way it’s set up.
