The opponent was Howard College(now Samford). 67 years ago was the last time Bama played an in state out of conference school. I think it was a wise decision. No sense in giving in state colleges an advantage of exposure. Look at what happened by playing Auburn. If Bama hadn't began playing them again, they'd more than likely went away instead of being a thorn in the side sometimes.

UAB absolutely hates Alabama, yet they want the politicians to force Bama to play them to give them recognition. I say no.

Most UAB fans I know don't want to play bama at all. Though it is funny to see bama avoid UAB in basketball

That part is total BS. UAB has very few true football fans. Almost every student at the school is primarily a fan of Alabama or Auburn when it comes to football, and they're split pretty evenly.
It's the 7,000 AU fans at UAB that make you think the whole school hates UA.
Just because they wish UAB wasn't a part of the UA system won't ever make it happen.
That being said, I'd like to see them match up in basketball, but Gene Bartow's ridiculous paranoia burned a lot of bridges between the two athletic departments. It WILL happen, but not soon.
