I think the Big 12 craters within 3 years and the SEC picks up Texas, OU, plus Florida State and Clemson and could easily go to 24 teams with 4 divisions. This is all driven by TV media money and playoff expansion.

Some reasoning:
LINK
Fourteen teams is just a holding zone for the more logical step to sixteen. Two divisions of seven teams each is too unwieldy, the scheduling too difficult to make sense in the long term. No, both conferences will eventually move to sixteen teams each, four divisions of four. You'll play all three teams in your division and then rotate through the rest of the conference much more efficiently.
So who will the Big Ten and the SEC add?
I've been writing on this for a long time, but the SEC's addition of teams in North Carolina and Virginia is inevitable.
The math and the geography is fate.
North Carolina has 3.4 million cable and satellite homes. Virginia has 2.8 million cable and satellite homes.
Both are rapidly growing markets.
Combined that's 6.2 million additional cable sets for the SEC Network, or about $75 million in additional revenue at the $1 a month network cost.

The SEC will only add teams from states that it does not already have a team in so teams like Clemson, Fla St, and Texas are not viable additions due to the SEC already having teams in those states. It's all about the TV money boys. It has nothing to do with the best competition.

Teams have to be brought in with the thought of competing... Everyone realizes that A&M is/will be better in the West than Missouri will be in the east.. I'm not in favor of 16 teams and we pick up another "tough" team in the west, while the East gets another cupcake fo. florida or Georgia to beat up on annually. South Carolina is relevant only as long as Spurrier is around then they go back to the cellar. Tennessee will have a difficult time trying to get back to relevancy for the considerable future. It will take time to see if Missouri will be able to recruit in order to compete in the SEC.
I'm not a fan of divisions... Makes it seem as though were a league instead of a conference and waters down traditional rivalries and creates unbalanced schedules for certain teams on a consistent basis as we see with Alabama as of late.
I say leave it as it is and let other teams water down their conferences for revenue. IF we keep winning championships, we will get all the money we need. Period.
Off subject a lil, but why does the SEC not have its own network like the Big Ten to generate similar revenue, I dont get it? Big Ten anything sucks for real....

I'll be nice. While the topic started last year, Clay Travis made that post within the last week. His hypothesis is that MD and Rutgers leaving their respective conferences will kick off another round of teams moving. Since 14 teams is so unnatural and the money possibility so great, I'd say there's a good chance he's right.

I think it's inevitable that we go to 16. While I think the 12 team format was the best, once you expanded, 16 is the natural end point. The only question is when.
My preference with the 4 div format is to go to a 9 game conference sched and eliminate the permanent x div opponents. This way you play 3 div opponents and 2 each from the other div.
Most, but not all of the important rivalries can be preserved thru div groupings. The broken permanent rivalries would be played twice in a 4 yr period, so it wouldn't be that big of a gap. The problem with grouping by rivalry is that the div can be somewhat imbalanced from a historical perspective. For example:
D1
LSU
A&M
OM
MSU
D2
VT
Ark
MO
KT
D3
AL
AU
TN
Vandy
D4
FL
GA
SC
NCSt
The in state rivalries are maintained, FL/GA, AL/TN. LSU/FL is not, but we are lobbying to drop it anyway. GA/AU is the only big time rivalry that is broken. You can play with the groupings, but one of the really big boys would have to go.

Georgia would win their division every year.

The reason divisional re-alignment comes up is bc the ACC losing two teams to the Big 10. That will open the doors for other conferences to raid the ACC bc the current teams will be getting antsy. The SEC is looking to add more markets so that when the SEC network gets going, they can sell it to the most markets and maximize the revenue.

More than a good chance.
It's a Bama beating Auburn chance.
A given.

I think my pods are much better. They need to be relatively balanced. You can't have too many traditional powers in the same pod. Likewise you can't or shouldn't have more than one bottom feeder in the same pod.

The ACC is losing Maryland, and essentially switching them for ND. Id say the ACC came out smelling fairly decent in that exchange.

I'm sorry that I don't have my 2 letter postal codes memorized, but how many teams in the SEC start with a K and have a T in it that you couldn't figure it out?

We should all pray that this stupid 4 division crap never happens.

I knew what you meant. You're right though, I guess it would have just been easier to call you stupid. That's something you learn in elementary school, and more than likely see quite often in daily/weekly life.
