Chicken should seriously consider banning poster, theballguy, from the SEC Rant.

So you know, the SEC is not requesting penalties in conjunction with this case. So, that won't be a direct result. You should have known this, but since you didn't, I wanted to point out that your #1 was impossible.
Also, LSU isn't going to accept penalties. It isn't going to publicly acknowledge wrongdoing. You MIGHT get a mutual statement from LSU and the SEC that this is being put behind them. That will be an indicator that the SEC has no more cards to play.
LSU can accept them today and the lawsuit would likely end.
I'm not bothering with the rest. I don't know why I keep subjecting myself to the delusion of LSU fans.

If you want the law to define your standards rather than the SEC, that is your right. But you can't be a member of the SEC at the same time

And the temporary court order permitted Bediako to participate despite those restrictions. Alabama stopped playing him when that protection ended. That's a very important legal point.
If your argument is that Alabama violated a separate conference rule that wasn't covered by the order, identify it. Otherwise, you're ignoring the very court protection that allowed him to play.

If LSU acts beyond the rules and standards of the SEC

I do feel a lot stupider after this thread

The SEC is voluntary.

If disagreeing with LSU fans is grounds for expulsion, I suppose I should at least be entitled to a hearing and a two-thirds vote.

You're treating your assertion that LSU violated no rules as an established legal conclusion. It isn't.
quote:Not only did the court rule in favor of the players, it went so far as to say no school can be punished for playing those players. You are wrong
Whether LSU's conduct provides grounds for disciplinary action is a question that must be evaluated under those agreements

Just because a judge grants a TRO doesn't mean it's an order that the SEC has to roster or play them

The problem here is the parents are telling one kid to act right and letting the others do whatever they want.

Anyways, a lot of you guys are getting angry and can't seem to separate discussion from emotions. I'm going to leave you all to it.

Look, you continued to make two points until you moved the goalposts.
You say there are two issues-
1) Did LSU violate any eligibility rules? I have seen no remarks by the SEC, either publicly or in the lawsuit, that claim a violation. That seems to tell the story to me.
2) Can the SEC enforce its rules/bylaws? LSU says yes, in both the public sphere and also in court where they state the SEC has the authority.
What is there left to discuss? If LSU violate a rule, then it seems the SEC would have dropped that in the lawsuit or, at least let it leak publicly. Their credibility is dropping daily. If they had something they would have already put it out is my opinion.

The fact LSU is playing this kind of game

And that's why it should be up to LSU to do so and why the lack of institutional control accusation exists.
If they can't punish you, then the only form of punishment left for the SEC is to kick you out.

Again, that's not a direct result. The suit is not asking for LSU to accept penalties or for the court to grant the SEC the right to apply penalties.
LSU isn't going to accept a penalty. But, that's not the question I asked.
The major misstep in strategy is that the SEC assumed LSU would care enough about this suit to give in. It's going the opposite direction. LSU has been very reserved in its response. But, it has a TON of ammo if it wants to use it.
So far, it seems like LSU is willing to accept the dismissal of the suit and the inherent satisfaction of that as enough of a win.

LSU is trying to gaslight people by claiming they never intended or worked to do something they very clearly did and would have done if the SEC hadn't' filed the lawsuit.

quote:Do you know how many court cases the NCAA has lost lately? If you want to know more about that and why it's relevant, read the legal thread. Or keep dragging this thread out saying stupid wrong stuff
Conferences can and do have their own rules in addition to NCAA rules. That's the entire point of conference governance. The NCAA establishes broader eligibility standards, while individual conferences can impose additional requirements, subject to applicable law.
